Top 150 International Prospects To Consider In FYPD

It’s that time of the year again! January 15 has come and gone and now we look at international prospects that have “officially” signed with their respective clubs. There have been lists of the players that could be signed in this year’s class but I feel that it’s best to absolutely know where these prospects will land before ranking. I’ve added 240 prospects to my master list from this year’s international class and in this article, I’ll give you my Top 150 International Prospects to target in 2024 FYPDs.

Top 10

Leo De Vries, SS SDP

De Vries is a switch-hitting shortstop who has potentially above-average power from both sides of the plate. A short compact swing helps De Vries cover the plate and he should be a high-contact prospect even as he sees more advanced breaking pitches. At 6’2” it is likely De Vries will move off shortstop long-term for second base or third base. There is above-average speed for now but it should be about average once he gets to the higher levels of the minor leagues. De Vries is an all-around solid prospect who has great dynasty upside long term.

Jose Perdomo, SS ATL

One of the best fundamental hitters in this year’s international signing period is Jose Perdomo. The 5’11” shortstop has great bat-to-ball skills and regularly barrels up the baseball with the potential to get to above-average power as he matures. The floor might be high on Jose Perdomo as he will be a solid middle infield prospect with the glove and the bat looks like it will make enough contact to move him through Atlanta’s system.

Fernando Cruz, SS CHC

This is a prospect that will more than likely stick at shortstop long term. The 6’0” 180-pound shortstop has above-average raw power that helps him hit the ball to all fields and he could get to 20-plus home run power as he matures. The swing can get long at times resulting in swing and miss for Cruz and will need to tighten it up as he progresses through the Cubs system. This profile reminds me a lot of Javier Baez who is a power-hitting shortstop who has some speed as well but the hit tool can get out of wack at times.

Paulino Santana, OF TEX

The Rangers might have struck gold with Paulino Santana. Standing at 6’2” and 180 pounds at just 17 years old, Santana projects for plus power and speed. Santana can hit the ball to all fields with easy power and can use his speed to leg out doubles or potentially be a stolen base threat. The plus speed could ensure Santana sticks in center field long term making him an interesting 20-20 threat with potentially more pop in the bat to come.

Dawel Joseph, SS SEA

This is a toolsy shortstop that has the potential to move to centerfield long-term for the Mariners. Joseph is still filling out his 6’2” frame and had been a hit-over power prospect but there have been reports that Joseph is starting to build muscle and move toward a power-over-hit profile. The speed is considered plus at this time but I’ll be curious how he uses it once in the Mariners organization.

Yovanny Rodriguez, C NYM

The Mets have a knack for signing catching prospects with big upside we have seen this with Endy Rodriguez (now with the Pirates) and Francisco Alvarez. Yovanny Rodriguez could be just as good as Rodriguez and Alvarez long-term. There is an above-average hit tool here with already average power if Rodriguez continues to put on muscle to his 6’0” frame we could be talking about a 20-plus home run bat. The catching abilities are borderline plus right now making Yovanny Rodriguez the best catching prospect projected in this year’s draft class.

Adolfo Sanchez, OF CIN

One of my favorite bats in this signing period Adolfo Sanchez has the potential for plus grades in both hit tools as well as grow into plus power. Currently, 6’2” Adolfo Sanchez has quick hands through the zone generating above-average power right now and from the left side of the plate you can start to dream of 25-plus home run power in the Great American launching pad. Long-term I have Sanchez moving over to a corner outfield position where his plus arm can play up. This is a great draft and stash candidate for FYPD

Joswa Lugo, SS LAA

This a power-over hit profile for Joswa Lugo. The above-average raw power makes him interesting but the hit tool is going to be the make-or-break tool that will need to improve. Already 6’2” and 175 pounds Joswa Lugo will more than likely move off the shortstop position long-term moving to either third base or one of the corner outfield positions where the power and arm strength might be better suited.

Emil Morales, SS LAD

The Dodgers signed Emil Morales and in my opinion, this might be a prospect that will climb up the rankings in short order. Morales has a smooth swing with above-average bat-to-ball skills from the right side of the plate. The power could be a plus as he matures into his 6’3” frame and with a subtle leg kick generates solid raw power right now. It should not be long for Emil Morales to move off of shortstop and establish himself as a third baseman long-term. There could be easy 25-plus home run power here with solid bat-to-ball skills that could help in dynasty format. There isn’t much speed with Morales so you shouldn’t count on any more than a handful of steals early on.

Yandel Ricardo, SS KCR

Kansas City Royals signed a switch-hitting shortstop in Yandel Ricardo. There is easy raw power from both sides of the plate with Ricardo and there are reports that the 6’1” prospect could get to plus power long-term. The swing is short and compact helping Yandel Ricardo to get to pitches and drive them to the gaps. The contact off Ricardo’s bat is loud and his swing is repeatable from both sides of the plate. This might be a prospect that is more focused on the bat than defense which is fine for dynasty managers as he will more than likely move over to third base as he matures.
