MLB Injury Report

Josh Rojas – INF/OF Arizona Diamondbacks

Rojas last played on July 1, and he will now be on a rehab assignment while he tests out his ailing back.

Merrill Kely – SP Arizona Diamondbacks

It looks like Kelly could be back on the mound for the Diamondbacks very soon, assuming all goes well with his next rehab appearance.

John Means – SP Baltimore Orioles

The hope had always been for Means to be ready at some point in August. He did have a minor setback late in the spring, so his timeline may have been adjusted. Time will tell, but throwing multiple bullpen sessions is good news.

Cedric Mullins – OF Baltimore Orioles

While it’s always difficult to trust the timelines administered by players, it’s still an optimistic outlook provided by Mullins. That said, this seems like a realistic timeline, for now, so consider him DTD for now.

Garrett Whitlock – SP Boston Red Sox, Chris Sale – SP Boston Red Sox

Whitlock apparently feels great after having thrown for the first time in weeks. His return is somewhat tricky given the nature of his injury and the amount of times he’s been injured this year. As for Sale, this was his first time throwing from a mound since his injury at the beginning of June. Time will tell how he feels afterward, but this is promising nonetheless.

Trevor Story – 2B/SS Boston Red Sox

This is fantastic news. Barring any setbacks, we should see Story back with the Red Sox by the beginning of August.

Tanner Houck – SP Boston Red Sox

The good news is that this is not an arm injury, so it’s all about his face allowing him to pitch. Once he does start throwing off of a mound, it may be a quick return with a small ramp-up.

Christopher Morel – INF/OF Chicago Cubs

Consider Morel DTD while he gets his neck better.

Liam Hendriks – RP Chicago White Sox

Great news for Hendriks, as he progresses towards a simulated game. If all goes well, he will likely go on a rehab assignment next.

Eloy Jimenez – OF Chicago White Sox

Jimenez was available off the bench to pinch hit but did not. He is likely out of action until at least the weekend.

Mike Clevinger – SP Chicago White Sox

Clevinger’s progress here seems to be quite positive. It’s unclear when he’ll return, but he’s at least trending in the right direction.

Randal Grichuk – OF Colorado Rockies

Grichuk’s groin injury seems minor, and he could be back once the team starts their upcoming road trip.

Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros

There’s no word yet on how long this assignment will be, but chances are it takes Alvarez through the weekend.

Framber Valdez – SP Houston Astros

The injury to Valdez seems to be more serious than originally believed. There’s no guarantee that he makes this start and an Injury List designation could be in the works here. Stay tuned.

Salvador Perez – C Kansas City Royals

Perez could be back any day now if he’s catching pre-game like this. Time will tell, but this seems like a good thing, and he could be back soon.

Clayton Kershaw – SP Los Angeles Dodgers

Kershaw remains on the Injured List but maintains that he feels good. The timetable of early August suggests that he will need a rehab assignment before returning.

Wade Miley – SP Milwaukee Brewers

The good news is that it doesn’t seem like it’s Miley’s UCL that’s the problem here. Additionally, with no need for imaging (yet), the team thinks that they can solve the problem through a PRP injection and a minimum stay on the Injured List. Time will tell if that’s the way to do it.

Aaron Ashby – SP/RP Milwaukee Brewers

Once Ashby starts pitching in games, it could be a quick return to the Brewers, albeit as a reliever. Keep your eyes on this situation.

Brandon Woodruff – SP Milwaukee Brewers

Nobody was as happy as Woodruff was when he got the news that he’s be starting a rehab assignment. It will likely be a lengthy one, but this is fantastic news nonetheless.

Starling Marte – OF New York Mets

Consider Marte DTD while he gets his head right.

Nestor Cortes – SP New York Yankees

Cortes’ rehab assignment will be a lengthy one, due to the extent of his injury. He also is not eligible to return until early August.

Aaron Judge – OF New York Yankees

Very promising here. He’s gone on to take live BP (with Cortes) and looks to be almost ready to go. A July 25 game versus the Mets wasn’t ruled out by manager Boone, but he’s been reluctant to give a date on anything Judge-related since day one. It’s unclear if he’ll need a rehab assignment.

LaMonte Wade Jr. – OF San Francisco Giants

Consider Wade DTD for now with more updates later today.

Tyler O’Neill – OF St. Louis Cardinals

Be prepared.

Tommy Edman – INF/OF St. Louis Cardinals

This is the first piece of news on Edman in a while, and it’s reasonably positive. There’s still no timetable for a return, and a rehab outing seems like a viable option.

Kevin Gausman – SP Toronto Blue Jays, Jordan Romano – RP Toronto Blue Jays

Gausman missed his last scheduled start over the weekend. If he cannot make this start on Saturday, then perhaps a trip to the Injured List is in the works. As for Romano, he did not pitch last night.

Hyun-Jin Ryu – SP Toronto Blue Jays

This could be the final test for Ryu, who has miraculously progressed incredibly quickly. One word of caution here for Ryu. He is slated to become a free agent after this summer. There was some speculation that he wanted to be back this season in order to showcase his talents, abilities, and health to help him get another contract. Coming back after thirteen months after Tommy John Surgery, at his advanced age, is nothing short of miraculous. If he can continue to deliver at a high velocity with an effective batch of results, that would be a tremendous feat. It would also be quite rare.
