Week 7 Starting Pitcher Rankings for Fantasy Baseball

Entering the seventh week of the season it’s starting to look like the pitching landscape has settled and there is enough of a sample size to fairly assess players. Yet, matchups will always play a key role in forecasting the high and low-end outcome possibilities for every pitcher each week. That’s why we provide our weekly starting pitcher rankings to zoom in on those key matchups and share our confidence level in a successful start for every pitcher, helping fantasy baseball managers start the right pitchers with confidence.

Starting Pitcher Rankings for Week 6 (5/6 – 5/12)

A few prefacing notes to help you identify key risers and fallers in the starting pitcher rankings below:

  • With five teams only having five games this week the overall volume of two-start pitchers is reduced considerably. In addition, there are far fewer top-tier pitchers with two starts planned this coming week. The highest-ranked options include Luis Castillo (@MIN & OAK), Nick Lodolo (DET & @CWS), Justin Verlander (@NYY & @DET), and the red-hot Seth Lugo (MIL & @LAA).
  • There are a few teams whose entire rotation benefits from easier matchups this week. These teams include the Mariners (@MIN & OAK), the Rangers (@OAK & @COL), and the Guardians (DET & @CWS). A likely recurring theme this season will be to encourage starting nearly all pitchers facing the Athletics and Rockies, even at Coors, with confidence until we see any reason to pull back.
  • Lastly, there are also teams with strong rotations that are limited in their rankings due to tougher matchups this week. These team rotations include the Marlins (@LAD & PHI), the Padres (@CHC & LAD), and the Yankees (HOU & @TBR). Several of those team’s frontline starters still have decent start confidence ratings for their matchups this week, but their rankings are far lower than normal.
