Fantasy EPL: Four Left Field Punts Prior to Gameweek 13

Punting on a player could see you reap rewards in overall team value, and at your attempt to challenge for the title. In this article, I will outline four left field punts who could have long term value. These players could be worth the last spot on your bench ahead of a busy fixture schedule for most teams.

Remember those people who you thought were crazy for drafting Mason Mount Round 11? How about the manager who used a top waiver claim on the like of Adama and Soyuncu. Having 1-2 punts on your team will give you an exciting player with massive upside. The great thing about punts is you usually didn’t give up too much to acquire them. If they don’t work out, no harm!

Gameweek 13 Left Field Punts

Che Adams

Position: Forward

Team: Southampton

Ownership: 9%

Points per Match Average: 3.39

Prospects: Che Adams has failed to start since Gameweek 6, and has played only 20 minutes since then. As a preseason favorite, he has failed to live up to his hype. Southampton is fighting the relegation battle, and getting Che Adams firing could be the key to their survival. Danny Ings is a man in form, but Nathan Redmond looks to be struggling each week playing up top. Should there be a switch of formation, Che Adams could see the benefit in his minutes. Ahead of Gameweek 13, it looks unlikely he will get a start, but his time could be coming. Southampton has friendly fixtures coming up, and as a big-money signing, they may look to give Che Adams another chance. Adams is worth the last spot on your bench if you need a forward to punt on.

Demarai Gray

Position: Midfielder

Team: Leicester City

Ownership: 0%

Points per Match Average: 3.5

Prospects: You may be thinking, Leicester are on fire why would Rodgers even consider changing his starting XI? Ayoze Perez has looked poor in every game that they haven’t played against 10 men. Gray has replaced Perez at around the 60-70-minute mark in the last 4 games. Against Crystal Palace and Arsenal when Gray came on he changed the game. He provided an assist to Vardy in one and coming on against Arsenal they had no answer for him and was unlucky not to get another assist. It may be risky for Rodgers to change his lineup, but with Ayoze providing very little spark it could be sooner than later that Gray comes in. After being dropped early-season Gray has responded positively and has received praise from his manager. Ahead of Gameweek 13, add left field punt target Gray to your bench with his upside being on a title-challenging team.

Leroy Sane

Position: Forward

Team: Manchester City

Ownership: 27%

Points per Match Average: 0.0

Prospects: Sane sustained a long-term knee injury during pre-season but could make his return in the next few months. Sane has always been a top fantasy asset when in the lineup he is a massive attacking threat and fills up the stat sheet nicely. There are major question marks about his future at City, and where he fits into the XI. With Manchester City hoping to compete in all competitions, they will need Sane in their squad rotation. Depending on the EPL table and their status in the Champions League it remains to be seen which squad Sane will feature in more. If you have a spare spot on your bench and can hold Sane for 2-3 months especially in leagues with playoffs, he is worth an add. When Sane starts he can be considered a FWD1. Make sure to have some guaranteed starters on your bench to make up for Sane’s injury absence.

Christian Benteke

Position: Forward

Team: Crystal Palace

Ownership: 9%

Points per Match Average: 4.25

Prospects: Benteke only has 2 league starts this season, but when he has started has provided great fantasy value. Benteke is a rare forward with an extremely high ceiling due to all the headers he wins. For now, it looks like Ayew has the spot locked down, come but that could soon change in Ayew enters a drought or Palace aren’t getting results. If Benteke gets back into the starting XI he is a FWD3 with FWD2 upside if he can learn to score. Palace’s fixtures get a lot easier after this week, and now is the time to grab Benteke as a speculative add. If you have the room it could be worth a left field punt on Benteke for 3-4 weeks, especially if you don’t have 3 solid Forwards.
