Fantasy Basketball: Waiver Wire Pick Ups, Week 15

With a slew of injuries and a few trades recently, Week 15 has some short-term waiver wire gems for you.

Firstly, we would be remiss not to mention that it is with a heavy heart that we write this week’s waiver wire column. Tragically, Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and other passengers died in a helicopter crash yesterday. Kobe was a fantasy basketball monster for most of his career. He capped off an incredible 18 year run with a 60-point gem in his last game. Kobe’s final game will serve as a fantastic memory for those that idolized him over many years. Rest in Peace Mamba.

Below are three key players on your waiver wire to gain an advantage on your competitors for week 15

Waiver Wire Pick Ups, Week 15

Trevor Ariza – Portland Trailblazers (51% rostered)

Strengths: 3 Pointers & Steals

Ariza was traded to the Blazers mid-week and immediately made an impact. He had 21 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 4 three-pointers. Ariza’s second game was poor though. He only scored 7 points and 4 rebounds and an assist. In both games, he played over 31 minutes. The trade means the Blazers believe they can still make a push for the playoffs and as such, Ariza should see at least 30 minutes a night.

Ariza should see a jump in his three-pointers and steals with his increased role in the Blazer rotation for the rest of the season. He is a great waiver wire pick up for week 15.

Jerami Grant – Denver Nuggets (71% rostered)

Strengths: Points & Blocks

Jerami Grant has been the beneficiary of more playing time since Paul Millsap went down. Grant is a solid all-round contributor in fantasy. With his game more suited to roto leagues, Grant provides you with a good array of stats in most of the standard 9 category formats. In the 8 games since Millsap has been injured, Grant has averaged 13.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, 1.1 steals and 1.0 threes.

With Millsaps return date unknown, Grant is a great waiver wire addition for week 15.

De’Anthony Melton – Memphis Grizzlies (38% rostered)

Strengths: Steals

Melton is much the same mold as Jerami Grant. He is not outstanding in any single category. However, he is a solid contributor across the board. Melton has been shooting very well from the field over the last month (56% FG). On top of the excellent shooting, he provided 10.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.0 assist and 1.0 steals in the last week.

Melton is a low-risk waiver wire add this week if you need solid numbers from your guard spot.
