Fantasy EPL Gameweek 15 Sleepers XI

For this article, we use the ownership statistics from Fantrax.  Our only rule is that each player we highlight is required to have ownership of 60% or below at the time of writing.  Therefore there’s a good chance these players will be free agents in your Fantrax Draft League!

GK: Alphonse Areola

Team: Fulham

Opponent: Southampton (Home)

Ownership: 23%

Points Last Gameweek: 6

Prospects: I’ve recently refreshed the Goalkeeper Rankings I publish on Twitter, which take into consideration the link between making lots of saves and conceding a low number of goals. The idea is to try and stream goalkeepers that meet these criteria, rather than chasing a clean sheet from Ederson or Alisson for example. Alphonse Areola came in at 4th place in these rankings and was the highest placed keeper with 60% ownership or below. Therefore, he makes the Gameweek 15 Sleepers XI. Fulham faces Southampton this weekend, and I’m confident of a solid score for Areola.

DEF: Joel Matip

Team: Liverpool

Opponent: West Bromwich Albion (Home)

Ownership: 58%

Points Last Gameweek: 19

Prospects: Joel Matip has been suffering with injury and fitness issues recently, but after a 19 point performance against Crystal Palace, and an upcoming fixture against West Brom, I have to back him in my Gameweek 15 Sleepers XI. The Cameroonian defender will surely start this one, and Liverpool will be looking to build upon the 7-0 demolishing of Palace in their last game. Matip is a great player to pick up – I’ve got no idea why his ownership is still below my 60% threshold, but I’m not complaining!

DEF: John Stones

Team: Manchester City

Opponent: Newcastle United (Home)

Ownership: 44%

Points Last Gameweek: 12

Prospects: John Stones is back in favor under Pep to an extent, and he’s a player that should be acquired when City have a good upcoming fixture, and he looks set to start. This weekend it looks as though both of those boxes will be ticked. City are playing struggling Newcastle at home. Good upcoming fixture: tick. Stones sat out the mid-week EFL Cup victory over Arsenal. Looks set to start the next game: tick.

The Englishman has scored fairly well for ghost points in his recent outings, so he’s certainly a player I would bring in if I could. My general rule with a player like Stones is to roster him if he ticks the boxes mentioned above. Drop him if he doesn’t. And if you play with live lineup changes and he doesn’t make the starting eleven, that’s also a time to drop him.

DEF: Kortney Hause

Team: Aston Villa

Opponent: Crystal Palace (Home)

Ownership: 9%

Points Last Gameweek: 13

Prospects: Kortney Hause enters my Gameweek 15 Sleepers XI for his debut this season. The Englishman has started the last two games for Aston Villa due to the absence of Konsa, has generally played pretty well, kept two clean sheets, and scored over 30 Fantrax points. Yes, please. Hause was a good option at times last season, as he does score well for ghost points (mainly aerials). This weekend the Villans face a Crystal Palace side coming off a 7-0 defeat to Liverpool. Konsa may be back to full fitness, but I don’t see any reason to put him back into the side, Hause has done well and Villa has looked solid at the back.

DEF: Tosin Adarabioyo

Team: Fulham

Opponent: Southampton (Home)

Ownership: 7%

Points Last Gameweek: 14.25

Prospects: I’ll finish up my Gameweek 15 Sleepers XI defense with a player I mentioned as a solid Waiver Wire Target earlier in the week. Tosin Adarabioyo. The Fulham center-back has established himself in the side and has been gaining decent ghost points for aerials, interceptions, and clearances. The Cottagers face Southampton at home in Gameweek 15, and they are likely to be missing star striker Danny Ings. With such low ownership, I would hope that Adarabioyo is an option available to most readers of this article. Fulham is a much-improved side – you no longer need to be put off by their defenders.

As an added bonus, Adarabioyo’s defensive partner Anderson has had his red card from Gameweek 14 rescinded, so will be available for selection. Therefore, another solid defensive display is on the cards!

MID: Anwar El Ghazi

Team: Aston Villa

Opponent: Crystal Palace (Home)

Ownership: 31%

Points Last Gameweek: 34

Prospects: I featured Anwar El Ghazi in my Waiver Wire article earlier in the week, and I’ve got to feature him in the Gameweek 15 Sleepers XI also! The man is on incredible form, with 69 points during his last 195 minutes of EPL football. Incredible. If the Dutchman is still a free agent in your Fantrax league, please go and sign him. He won’t keep his place in the team forever or be putting up amazing points scores, but for me, he’s a great asset. El Ghazi has to start this weekend, and Villa is playing a Palace side who just lost 7-0.

MID: Jeffrey Schlupp

Team: Crystal Palace

Opponent: Aston Villa (Away)

Ownership: 22%

Points Last Gameweek: 11.5

Prospects: Another player I featured in the Waiver Wire article earlier in the week was Jeffrey Schlupp. The Crystal Palace midfielder is well-liked by his manager and usually puts in some impressive ghost point scores. He gained 11.5 points during the 7-0 defeat to Liverpool…! Schlupp won’t start every game for the Eagles, but I’m backing him to start this weekend, and perform pretty well against Aston Villa.

MID: Robbie Brady

Team: Burnley

Opponent: Leeds United (Home)

Ownership: 8%

Points Last Gameweek: 6.5

Prospects: This one is a gamble because as we all know, Robbie Brady is always injured! I’m backing the former Norwich midfielder to pull through and start his fifth consecutive game (!!!). The Irishman is a solid scoring player in Fantrax. If he’s starting games and has a decent fixture schedule, he’s worth owning. Hopefully, Brady will repay my faith and bring home a good score for the Gameweek 15 Sleepers XI.

MID: Ibrahim Diallo

Team: Southampton

Opponent: Fulham (Away)

Ownership: 0%

Points Last Gameweek: N/A

Prospects: I did have Nathan Redmond in this slot as a pre-emptive re-shuffle for Southampton due to the injury to Ings and Djenepo’s relatively poor form. But he’s now likely to be injured once again. So instead Ibrahim Diallo gets the nod from Southampton due to Romeu being suspended. This one is a huge punt, as the summer signing has been limited to substitute appearances so far this season. Southampton’s game against a rejuvenated Fulham side is likely to be won or lost in the middle of the park, so I would expect Diallo to have a pretty busy game!

FWD: Chris Wood

Team: Burnley

Opponent: Leeds United (Home)

Ownership: 58%

Points Last Gameweek: 17.5

Prospects: Is it Chris Wood season? You bet. The big Kiwi scored during Burnley’s impressive 2-1 victory over Wolves, and therefore I’m making him the second Clarets player to feature in my Gameweek 15 Sleepers XI. Leeds has lots of injuries in defense, and therefore I’m backing Wood to score well against a make-shift backline. The Whites have shipped two or more goals in each of their last three games, as well as conceding six last weekend. Hopefully Wood will provide another double-digit haul.

FWD: Christian Benteke

Team: Crystal Palace

Opponent: Aston Villa (Away)

Ownership: 40%

Points Last Gameweek: N/A

Prospects: The big Belgian Christian Benteke was suspended last weekend, and Palace lost 7-0. I’ve mentioned that quite a lot in this article so far. Did they lose so heavily because Benteke was missing? Not a fact, but I for one think that’s why. Prior to his suspension, Benteke scored nearly 60 points in three games, which included a -7 for his red card. Pretty great. I fully expect him to come back into the starting lineup, and when he starts, he scores 10 points or more. Sign him up if a fellow manager dropped him during his suspension.

Average Ownership: 31%
