Fantasy EPL Gameweek 13 Sleepers XI

For this article, we use the ownership statistics from Fantrax.  Our only rule is that each player we highlight is required to have ownership of 60% or below at the time of writing.  Therefore there’s a good chance these players will be free agents in your Fantrax Draft League!

GK: Emiliano Martinez

Team: Aston Villa

Opponent: Burnley (Home)

Ownership: 54%

Points Last Gameweek: 22

Prospects: How could I not pick Emiliano Martinez in goal after a heroic 22 point display in Gameweek 12. The fact that Aston Villa faces Burnley at home also plays into his favor!! Martinez has been towards the top of my goalkeeper rankings alongside Darlow since the start of the season, and I’m surprised to see his ownership below the 60% threshold. If the Aston Villa shot-stopper is a free agent in your Fantrax League, you have to sign him! Martinez is a keeper you can trust to make saves, and concede little goals.

DEF: Matt Targett

Team: Aston Villa

Opponent: Burnley (Home)

Ownership: 41%

Points Last Gameweek: 12.25

Prospects: As well as backing Martinez in goal for my Gameweek 13 Sleepers, I’m also backing Aston Villa left-back, Matt Targett. The Englishman has had a slow start to the season in terms of Fantrax points, but he’s upped his game in recent weeks. Targett has gained double-figure hauls in three of his last four appearances, and another should be upon us as he faces Burnley. You could do a lot worse than Targett as your DEF3 or 4. A great streaming option for these mid-week fixtures.

DEF: Angelo Ogbonna

Team: West Ham United

Opponent: Crystal Palace (Home)

Ownership: 20%

Points Last Gameweek: 19.75

Prospects: Angelo Ogbonna scored the winning goal in West Ham’s Gameweek 12 victory, but that’s not the only reason why the Italian makes my Gameweek 13 Sleepers XI. The Hammers are playing Crystal Palace at home, he’s guaranteed to start in a week full of rotation, and he’s scored double digits in three of his last four games. Ogbonna is likely to be coming up against Benteke, so there should be plenty of aerial duels to be won! With the ownership of Coufal and Cresswell far too high to be selected, Ogbonna ticks all the boxes and makes the team. Could be a great differential.

DEF: John Stones

Team: Manchester City

Opponent: West Bromwich Albion (Home)

Ownership: 37%

Points Last Gameweek: 10

Prospects: This isn’t a pick I was expecting to make any time soon, but it looks as though John Stones is back in favor with Pep. Is this because of his good performances, or because there is an off-field issue between Laporte and his manager? In any case, Stones has made the most of his three consecutive EPL starts. Three clean sheets and 35.5 points in total is pretty good, especially for a Manchester City center back. They historically score poorly due to the lack of involvement in the game. I’m backing Stones to keep his place in the side for the mid-week game against West Brom. He’s a welcome addition to my Gameweek 13 Sleepers XI.

DEF: Antonee Robinson

Team: Fulham

Opponent: Brighton % Hove Albion (Home)

Ownership: 43%

Points Last Gameweek: 9.5

Prospects: American left-back Antonee Robinson was the first name on my Gameweek 13 Sleepers XI team sheet. The Fulham defender scored 9.5 points playing against champions Liverpool, adding to an already imposing résumé of appearances in recent months. Robinson has firmly established himself in Parker’s strongest team, and I have been particularly impressed by his performances of late. The Cottages face Brighton during the mid-week fixtures, and a double-figure haul for Robinson is almost guaranteed. His style of play is well suited to Fantrax, and he’s potentially a Top 15 defender for me. Do almost anything you can to bring this chap into your roster!

MID: Matt Ritchie

Team: Newcastle United

Opponent: Leeds United (Away)

Ownership: 31%

Points Last Gameweek: 10.5

Prospects: I punted on Matt Ritchie starting at the weekend, and I’m going back for more after a really solid 10.5 points. Newcastle won the game and therefore surely Bruce will stick with Ritchie for the visit to Leeds in another winnable game. I said last week that the Scotsman has always scored well in Fantrax but has been let down by his fitness on many occasions. Hopefully, he can get a decent run in the side over the festive period, with Saint-Maximin and Fraser still missing and Hendrick out of favor. Ritchie is well worth an addition to my Gameweek 13 Sleepers XI!

MID: Gylfi Sigurdsson

Team: Everton

Opponent: Leicester City (Away)

Ownership: 45%

Points Last Gameweek: 29

Prospects: Gylfi Sigurdsson was handed a start at the weekend after Rodriguez missed out through injury. The Icelandic midfielder certainly made the most of his opportunity, producing six key passes to go alongside scoring the winning goal. 29 points and a performance reminiscent of Sigurdsson’s impressive 18/19 campaign! I’m not expecting this form to continue for the rest of the season, but with Rodriguez unlikely to be fit enough for the mid-week game against Leicester, I’m backing Sigurdsson for my Gameweek 13 Sleepers XI. Worth a punt if he’s a free agent in your Fantrax league!

MID: Jeffrey Schlupp

Team: Crystal Palace

Opponent: West Ham United (Away)

Ownership: 16%

Points Last Gameweek: 21.5

Prospects: The final midfielder to make my Gameweek 13 Sleepers XI is Jeffrey Schlupp. The Crystal Palace man has had fluctuating fortunes so far this season, but after two good displays for Hodgson’s side, I’m expecting the Ghanaian to remain in the side for now. It looks as though Schlupp and Eze are the preferred wide men at the moment, with Townsend dropping to the bench after a strong start to the season (Fantrax-wise anyway). Crystal Palace faces a trip to West Ham on Wednesday, and I’m backing Schlupp to start once again.

FWD: Said Benrahma

Team: West Ham United

Opponent: Crystal Palace (Home)

Ownership: 51%

Points Last Gameweek: 7

Prospects: Said Benrahma was finally given a start by David Moyes at the weekend!! The Algerian forward produced a solid display in terms of Fantrax points but was one of West Ham’s best players by most accounts. I’m backing Benrahma to start once again this mid-week, and he’s an essential pick-up in smaller leagues. If you and your fellow managers have been avoiding him due to not being a “big name”, now is the time to correct that. This is the start of Benrahma’s season. Sign him if you can. Trade him in if you can. Should be a Top 50 player between now and the end of the season.

FWD: Joelinton

Team: Newcastle United

Opponent: Leeds United (Away)

Ownership: 35%

Points Last Gameweek: 11.5

Prospects: Big Joelinton is another Newcastle player I successfully backed last week. And I’m going back for more in the Gameweek 13 Sleepers XI as the Magpies travel to Leeds. The Brazilian forward is not a player I’m that keen on, but he has scored well in Fantrax recently. As well as actually playing fairly well! A score of 11.5 points followed Joelinton’s epic 31.5 point score in Newcastle’s previous game. If you need a FWD3 who is guaranteed to basically start every game, Joelinton is a decent option. The game against Leeds should see some decent aerial battles against Cooper and Ayling.

FWD: Ivan Cavaleiro

Team: Fulham

Opponent: Brighton % Hove Albion (Home)

Ownership: 18%

Points Last Gameweek: 9.5

Prospects: Ivan Cavaleiro is the second Fulham player to make my Gameweek 13 Sleepers XI, after a string of impressive outings. The Portuguese forward has started the last four games for Fulham and has scored really well in his last three. Cavaleiro has the added bonus of being on penalty duty. Fulham face Brighton followed by Newcastle, and I would expect them to pick up a few points after a strong display against Liverpool at the weekend. If you’re after a forward from the waiver wire, look to pick up Cavaleiro.

Average Ownership: 35%
