2019 NFL Draft: Baltimore Ravens Select Marquise Brown

With the 25th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens selected wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown from Oklahoma.

After trading down with the Philadelphia Eagles to acquire more picks, the Baltimore Ravens selected Marquise Brown. Brown is an electric playmaker who should help keep opposing defenses honest as they gameplan to stop Lamar Jackson and the Ravens’ multifaceted rushing attack.

Fantasy Impact of Marquise Brown

After transferring from junior college, Brown eclipsed the 1,000-yard receiving mark in each of his two seasons in Oklahoma. He ended his Sooner career with 2,413 receiving yards in just 25 games, adding 17 touchdowns. With defenses keying in on the run because of the presence of Lamar Jackson at quarterback, Brown will be an important part of Baltimore’s offensive attack. He is a lid-lifter who defenses will have to account for. He has top-end speed and can beat defenders deep.

Baltimore would be wise to utilize Brown as more than just a deep threat. Jackson’s passing efficiency is still very much in question. Brown will be a key cog in keeping defenses from stacking the box with nine or even ten defenders.  Brown is a home run threat every time he touches the ball. Using Brown on simple screen passes or even on passes out of the backfield may pay huge dividends at any given time. However, his production will probably be inconsistent on a week-to-week basis.

I would have liked to see Brown land elsewhere with a more established quarterback in a more creative passing offense. Brown makes for a better best ball pick than a weekly starter in redraft leagues. He is still worthy of a mid-to-late round pick, but I would not want to rely on him as a must-start each week.
