Top 200 Overall Fantasy Hockey Rankings for 2019-20

The season is just around the corner, and you’ve likely indulged in watching some pre-season hockey to get you ready for opening night. We previously set rankings for Forwards, Defense, and Goaltending, so here are our overall combined fantasy hockey rankings.

Note that these are based on the cumulative rankings between Brandon Altomonte and Jesse Severe.

The top of the list was unanimous: Nikita Kucherov, Alex Ovechkin, Connor McDavid, and Nathan MacKinnon as the top four, in that order. After that is where opinions vary.

Who would you take at fifth overall? It was agreed that another position other than forward should be selected. Jesse chose Brent Burns, while I went with Andrei Vasilevskiy. Both wound up in the top 10, but Sidney Crosby is the consensus pick for fifth as a result.

It’s always curious to see where the first defenseman and goalie are taken. Your league scoring could determine whether to take one as high as fifth overall, or to wait until the second round. The top 50 are comprised of 6 goalies, 12 defensemen, and 32 forwards. There are plenty of quality forwards to go around, so it’s not a bad idea to take a defenseman or goalie if you’re torn between who to draft.

Another aspect to keep an eye on is the rookie factor. There will likely be someone in your league who reaches for Jack Hughes and Kaapo Kakko. While it’s possible they each have monster rookie campaigns, we stress to be cautious. In fact, we have Quinn Hughes as the first rookie off the board, followed by Cale Makar.

Players to Note

Jack Eichel – Eichel is one of the most underrated players by ADP (36.47). If he can stay healthy, he can be a top 5 Center with more than a point per game, elite shots, power-play points, and even faceoff wins. If you end up near the end of the first round, his upside is worth considering.

Roman Josi – With P.K. Subban in the New York metropolitan area this year, Josi should be the uncontested lead dog of the Nashville blue line for the first time. Slot him in to pile up shots, assists, and power-play points with a reliable baseline of assists.

Sergei Bobrovsky – He has two Vezina trophies and an enormous contract on a team that has been waiting desperately for a star in goal. His streaky past makes him a gamble if drafted too early, especially with the unknown factor of how he’ll perform in the Panthers system.

Brendan Gallagher – A category killer in shots while also providing value in scoring, power-play points, and hits. We may not have seen the limit of his performance yet, and an improving Habs club could lift him further.

Dougie Hamilton – The oft-traveled museum aficionado may not get the dominant power-play role or minutes, but he produces positive value in virtually every peripheral category. Imagine if he ever got the leading role?

2019 Fantasy Hockey Rankings
