Gameweek 12 Waiver Wire Targets

Olivier Giroud

Position: Forward

Team: Chelsea

Ownership: 40%

Next 5 Fixtures: eve (A), wol (A), WHU (H), ars (A), AVL(H)

Prospects: Giroud took advantage of his first EPL start this season with a goal and 18 points. Unfortunately for Chelsea, they lost Ziyech to injury in the win, which could spell more starts for Giroud. Giroud was the perfect target man for the crosses of Reece James, with the two linking up for the first goal. A stronger aerial presence than Tammy, and arguably a better work ethic should see him start over Tammy in the EPL in the next few fixtures.

While Chelsea has a bit tougher of a schedule their attack is something you cannot ignore, and Giroud has FWD1 upside every time he starts.

Verdict: I would use a top waiver claim on Giroud or about 5-7% of my FAAB on a striker that could score 3-4 goals over the next month.

Ivan Cavaleiro

Position: Forward

Team: Fulham

Ownership: 12%

Next 5 Fixtures: LIV (H), BRI (H), new (A), SOU (H), tot (A)

Prospects: Cavaleiro returned eight points in the loss against Manchester City. That is a solid outing considering the scores of some of the other forwards for Fulham! Cavaleiro has been picked ahead of Mitrovic over the last few games, and it’s very possible that continues with Mitrovic not even coming off the bench this week. The Fulham forward will give you a solid floor of 5-8 points with the upside of being Fulham’s penalty taker.

Scott Parker should run him out 90 minutes each week, with Fulham having won a few penalties late on this season. While picking up a Fulham forward doesn’t sound exciting, Cavaleiro will be a solid FWD3 addition to any roster and will help you win weeks when he gets an attacking return.

Verdict: I would use a mid-tier waiver claim or 2-5% of my FAAB on the Fulham forward.

Christian Benteke

Position: Forward

Team: Crystal Palace

Ownership: 10%

Next 5 Fixtures: TOT (H), whu (A), LIV (H), avl (A), LEI (H)

Prospects: Benteke got himself two goals on his return to the XI, and surely Hodgson can’t drop him after that. Jordan Ayew has been struggling most of the season, and now we could see Benteke return alongside Zaha. Benteke has always had one of the best floors around, and when he scores he can win you most gameweeks. With such low ownership, I will consider Benteke the must pick up of this week. A few tough matches coming up, but he should still provide a solid floor of headers and shots. When he starts Benteke has FWD2 value with the potential to be a FWD1.

Verdict: I would look to use a top-tier waiver claim or 5-7% of my FAAB on Benteke.

Gameweek 12 Trade-In Target

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Position: Defender

Team: Liverpool

Next 5 Fixtures: ful (A), TOT (H), cpl (A), WBA (H), new (A)

Prospects: Alexander-Arnold is back from injury having made the bench vs. Wolves. Trent should be in line to start the game against Fulham, and people may have forgotten how great he was in Fantrax through his poor season thus far. He can still return the PPM of a top 3 defender this season, and potentially the #1 overall defender. His attacking threat down the right-hand side has been greatly missed, and Fulham is the perfect game to unleash him again. I would consider Trent a top 20 player rest of the season, and a top 3 defender.

Verdict: I would look to offer any defender asides from Ben Chilwell in a 1:1 deal to get back Trent. Also, look to offer some over-performing midfielders and forwards such as Soucek, Jota, Podence, Bamford, and McBurnie to get back Trent.
