Carolina Hurricanes Sleepers for 2023-24 Fantasy Hockey

Michael Bunting

The Hurricanes made a great move when they added Michael Bunting in free agency. The pesky winger provides a nice blend of scoring and physicality that will be greatly appreciated. The 28-year-old appeared in 82 games last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, posting 23 goals, 49 points, 103 penalty minutes, and 85 hits. It was a strong year for him, and he should carry it over to Carolina in 2023-24.

With the Hurricanes, Bunting will play top-six minutes and see plenty of power-play time. Due to this, there’s a great chance that his offensive totals improve in 2023-24. Because of this and his immense physicality, do not overlook the prospect of taking him in your fantasy hockey draft once the stars are off the board.

Dmitry Orlov

The Hurricanes’ defensive group is the best part of their roster, and they made it even better by adding Dmitry Orlov. The 32-year-old had a solid season in 2022-23, posting seven goals and 36 points in 66 games. Yet, he truly dominated following his trade to the Boston Bruins. In 23 games, he had four goals and 17 points. He showed that he can produce serious offense while playing for a contender. Thus, don’t be surprised if he has great success with the Hurricanes this year.

Orlov is expected to play in the Hurricanes’ top four. He also should see time on both their power play and penalty kill. Due to his important roles with the club, he should be in for another big season in 2023-24. Thus, as you start to see big-name defensemen go off the board, consider picking Orlov in your fantasy hockey draft.

Tony DeAngelo

Tony DeAngelo is another Hurricanes sleeper to watch. He had a solid season offensively for the Philadelphia Flyers, posting 11 goals and 42 points in 70 games. Yet, now that he’s back with a deep Hurricanes club, his totals should go back up. He thrived with Carolina back in 2021-22, posting 10 goals and 51 points in 64 games.

DeAngelo’s defensive game is weak, but his offensive contributions make up for it. Thus, he is a player to seriously consider in your fantasy hockey draft once the stars are all gone. If he replicates his outstanding play during his first stint as a Hurricane, he will be a complete steal for your fantasy hockey club.

Nevertheless, the Hurricanes have some excellent sleeper options for your fantasy club. Bunting should be a wonderful addition to their group and have a strong season. Meanwhile, Orlov and DeAngelo are in line for big offensive seasons. It is going to be a lot of fun seeing how this trio performs during the 2023-24 season from here. They all should make big impacts for the Hurricanes as they push for the Stanley Cup.
