Fantrax MLB Injury Report – A Fallen Gallen

Here is the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Saturday, April 27, 2024. In today’s edition, Zac Gallen is the latest pitcher to suffer an injury, though is it as severe as those before him? Also, the Tampa Bay Rays will get a big boost soon, as Josh Lowe is aiming to make his 2024 debut this weekend. Finally, Jesus Luzardo could miss some significant time with an elbow injury that has an ominous undertone to it. All that and much more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

Fantrax Fantasy Baseball Injury Report

Zac Gallen – SP Arizona Diamondbacks (hamstring)

Gallen injured himself while throwing a pitch and was immediately seen by the trainers. He was taken out of the game for precautionary measures but this is still concerning. Gallen himself did say after the game that he does not expect to miss any time. We should get more details later this weekend to indicate what’s next for him.

Kodai Senga – SP New York Mets (shoulder capsule strain), Tylor Megill – RP New York Mets (shoulder strain)

The news had been quiet concerning Senga, but this is a welcome sight. He had been slowly progressing with regard to intensity and positioning, but facing hitters is a big step forward. The team will continue to take a cautious approach with him. As for Megill, he will need multiple rehab starts before a return to the Mets is even considered.

Josh Lowe – OF Tampa Bay Rays (oblique)

Be prepared.

Yandy Diaz – 3B Tampa Bay Rays (hand)

Diaz was hit by a pitch and had to be removed from the game. The good news is that the X-rays on his injured hand were negative, meaning that there was nothing broken or fractured. Now it will depend on how he feels the day after. Consider him DTD for now unless we hear otherwise.

Miami Marlins – Team Update

A lot to unpack here. Sandy Alcantara (Tommy John Surgery) continues to play catch and is on the slow road to recovery. As for Jake Burger (oblique), going through a full workout on the field should be a precursor to a rehab assignment. The team will likely want to see how he feels tomorrow before making that decision. Meanwhile, Braxton Garrett (shoulder) threw 59 pitches in his latest rehab outing on Friday, surrendering two runs in three innings while striking out four batters. His velocity, mind you, was in the high 80’s for all pitches, and that is something that is worrisome. Finally, it’s good to see that A.J. Puk (shoulder) is no longer feeling fatigued in his shoulder, and he can now work on getting himself back to the Marlins.

Jesus Luzardo – SP Miami Marlins (elbow)

Interesting comments here from Luzardo. He said that what he’s experiencing here isn’t necessarily pain, but rather discomfort or tightness that’s more than normal. He also said that he wants to get ahead of it right now and that this is reminiscent of what he experienced years ago. He doesn’t seem worried and hopes that relaxing will be able to have it take care of itself. He did have some tests done, so once those results are revealed, we should know more. All of that being said, this is quite worrisome because elbow injuries with pitchers are usually a bad combination for long-term ailments. Fantasy owners need to be prepared for the worst.

J.P. Crawford – SS Seattle Mariners (oblique)

It would be a very surprising development if he were to return within ten days. As stated here before, obliques are a difficult injury to project and chances are that he will miss at least one month of action.

Yu Darvish – SP San Diego Padres (neck)

This was the first time that Darvish threw off a mound since being sent to the Injured List. Manager Mike Shildt did not rule out the possibility of Darvish starting for the team later this week but did reiterate that that was one of many possibilities that are on the table.

Jackson Merrill – OF San Diego Padres (groin)

Merrill is still considered DTD here, as the team has high hopes and values him too much to risk it. If he doesn’t play at all this weekend, then fantasy owners can begin to worry.

Anthony Rendon – 3B Los Angeles Angels (hamstring)

The terminology of high grade is a serious one, meaning that he did some real damage to himself. There has been no word on if surgery is required to fix this, but it is likely an option. This could be a season-ending injury not just because of what it is, but who suffered it.

Walker Buehler – SP Los Angeles Dodgers (Tommy John Surgery)

This will be his sixth appearance, but it will likely be his last barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Wade Miley – SP Milwaukee Brewers (Tommy John Surgery)

This would be an unfortunate way to end a career, but also the likeliest of outcomes for Miley.

Luis Robert – OF Chicago White Sox (hip)

Some potentially good news for the White Sox, as they could see their best player returning in a few weeks. He will likely need a rehab assignment before going back into the lineup, mind you. We should know more details about his return as we get closer to this projected date. All that being said, his estimated time away has flip-flopped repeatedly, and chances are it changes again.

Vaughn Grissom – 2B/SS Boston Red Sox (hamstring)

Of note, Grissom has played at second base on this extended Spring Training session.

Triston Casas – 1B Boston Red Sox (ribs)

This opens the door to a wide variety of outcomes, as stated up above. Fantasy owners would be wise to hold for now.

Nick Pivetta – SP Boston Red Sox (elbow flexor strain)

If this is a success, Pivetta could be ready for a rehab assignment shortly afterward.
