2022 Fantasy Football: Week 17 Quarterback Rankings

The fantasy championship is finally here! High-five! As we head into Week 17, continue to roll out the quarterbacks who have got you to this point. If injuries have left you in a position where you need to stream, target players with favorable matchups or who are on teams that have something to play for this week. Everything is riding on championship week, so let’s get to those Week 17 quarterback rankings and notes. Good luck, everybody!

Injuries continue to wreak havoc on the quarterback position. Tua Tagovailoa landed in concussion protocol on Monday. It’s the second time this season Tagovailoa has been in concussion protocol, and it’s unclear whether he’ll play in Week 17. The Dolphins have an important divisional showdown with the Patriots this week, with a playoff berth hanging in the balance. Teddy Bridgewater will suit up if Tagovailoa is out.

Jalen Hurts missed last week with a shoulder sprain. While Gardner Minshew was a nice fill-in, the Eagles lost an important divisional game to the Cowboys. Hurts is pushing to play, so stay on top of the Eagles’ injury reports this week. In Baltimore, Lamar Jackson missed his third consecutive game with a knee injury. The Ravens clinched a playoff spot already, so we could continue to see Tyler Huntley under center.

Quarterback Notes

  • Jared Goff has been unstoppable, scoring at least 21 fantasy points and throwing for at least 330 yards in three of his last four games. He also has nine touchdowns and no interceptions over that span. Up next is a favorable matchup against Chicago. The Bears are the ninth-worst defense against quarterbacks, and Goff should be able to take advantage.  The Lions are likely reeling from a disappointing loss last week, and need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.  Goff is my QB6 this week.
  • Mike White was cleared to play in Week 17 and Jets fans – as well as fantasy managers with Jets’ pass-catchers – should rejoice. Since taking over the starting job in Week 12, White has elevated the Jets’ passing game, averaging 43 passing attempts and 317 passing yards per game. White should be motivated to play well this week. The Jets need to win out in order to have any chance at postseason play. Additionally, White is a free agent this offseason and is likely playing for a starting job in 2023. He should be able to put up solid numbers against a Seahawks defense that has allowed the 11th-most fantasy points to quarterbacks.
  • Brock Purdy has been the face of consistency since replacing Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 13. He’s thrown exactly two touchdowns in each of his four games while throwing between 185 and 235 passing yards per game. Those numbers aren’t the flashiest, but they’ve gotten the job done. Purdy has walked away with four wins and scored the 12th-most fantasy points among the quarterbacks during that four-game span. Purdy should continue to produce this week against a Raiders defense that has allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks. He’s a solid option for the fantasy championship this week.
  • Mac Jones warrants consideration in deeper leagues this week. He’s coming off a QB11 finish where he completed 21-of-33 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns. Jones has an opportunity to build off that performance in Week 17 against Miami. The Dolphins have allowed the second-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. They’ve also given up 25 touchdowns to the position, tied for third-most. Miami has yet to win a game in December and could be without Tua Tagovailoa this week. Look for Jones and company to try to take advantage in a divisional matchup with playoff implications.
