Two-Start Pitchers for Week 4 (April 15th – April 21st)

If you’re looking for a comprehensive list of all 37 two-start pitchers for Week 4 of the fantasy baseball season, you’ve sure come to the right place. I’ve divided these two-start pitchers into four categories and have noted good streaming targets in cases where roster percentage is low enough. Just one note: I haven’t included Tommy Henry (who would rank very low in the last category) because it looks like Jordan Montgomery’s return from the IL will prevent him from making a second start. Anyway, feel free to have a scroll and, as always, remember to stream responsibly.

Don’t You Dare Bench These Two-Start Pitchers

Tyler Glasnow SP Dodgers

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th @ Twins – 7IP W 0ER 3H 0BB 14K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th vs. Nationals + Sunday, April 21st vs. Mets

I’d be pretty excited if I had Tyler Glasnow on my roster right now. I don’t because of injury risk, but while he’s healthy sit back and enjoy.

Merrill Kelly SP DBacks

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th @ Rockies – 6IP W 2ER 6H 3BB 4K

2 Starts Next Week: Monday, April 15th vs. Cubs + Saturday, April 20th @ Giants

That’s three Quality Starts in three tries for Merrill Kelly, who more than passed his Coors Field test on Tuesday. The Cubs have mashed so far (2nd in runs per game and 4th in wOBA), but the Giants have not (19th and 23rd, respectively). Given the mid-season form, feels like a must-start two-start pitcher.

Sonny Gray SP Cardinals

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th vs. Phillies – 5IP W 0ER 5H 0BB 5K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th @ A’s + Sunday, April 21st vs. Brewers

After a dominant first start of the season, a pretty wonderful recent track record (2.86 ERA/3.02 FIP/1.14 WHIP over the last two years), and the A’s for one of his opponents, ya gotta start Sonny Gray.

Aaron Nola SP Phillies

Last start: Wednesday, April 10th @ Cardinals – 6IP W 2ER 3H 3BB 3K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th vs. Rockies + Sunday, April 21st vs. White Sox

Though the strikeouts haven’t been there in the early going (just 10 in 16 innings), Aaron Nola has been solid since his first-start blowup against the Braves (who can blame him?). Two juicy matchups next week make the veteran a no-brainer two-start pitcher for your weekly lineup.

You Should Probably Start These Two-Start Pitchers

George Kirby SP Mariners

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th @ Blue Jays – 4IP L 5ER 8H 0BB 3K

2 start next week: Monday, April 15th vs. Reds + Sunday, April 21st @ Rockies

You’ve likely invested a lot in George Kirby. So far, it sure hasn’t paid off (8.16 ERA/1.53 WHIP). His usual pin-point control is still there, though (two walks 14.1 innings). And his velocity. And the overall batted-ball numbers are solid (hard-hit rate actually ranks in the 85th percentile). Hard to believe the results won’t improve eventually, but the two matchups aren’t ideal.

Tanner Bibee SP Guardians

Last start: Wednesday, April 10th vs. White Sox – 4.1IP 5ER 6H 3BB 2K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th @ Red Sox + Saturday, April 21st vs. A’s

Tanner Bibee hasn’t pitched as well as we were all hoping so far. His eight walks in 13.2 innings sure is frustrating. And it’s led to an ugly-looking start (5.93 ERA/1.83 WHIP). You’ve probably drafted him to be one of your studs, though. Have some confidence he’ll turn it around unless somehow you have much better options.

Joe Musgrove SP Padres

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th vs. Cubs – 4IP L 4ER 5H 3BB 5K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th @ Brewers + Sunday, April 21st vs. Blue Jays

Joe Musgrove hasn’t been super effective thus far. Just one of his four starts has helped fantasy managers. Given that his current whiff rate is 29.9% (would be his highest over a full season), it’s likely just a rough patch. But the Brewers are raking in the early going and currently rank 3rd in wOBA. Can’t imagine you have enough better options to sit him in a categories league. But in that rare case, at least consider it.

Chris Bassitt SP Blue Jays

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th vs. Mariners – 6.2IP W 1ER 5H 4BB 8K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th vs. Yankees + Sunday, April 21st @ Padres

It was nice to see Chris Bassitt’s first solid performance after two rough ones on Tuesday. His control hasn’t quite come around (nine walks in 16 innings), but that has rarely been a problem for the 35-year-old (career 2.79 BB/9 rate). Can’t imagine you’d have much better options for your lineup.

Carlos Rodon SP Yankees

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th vs. Marlins – 6IP W 0ER (2R) 4H 2BB 6K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th @ Blue Jays + Sunday, April 21st vs. Rays

It doesn’t feel like Carlos Rodon is all the way back to his 2022 form yet. He’s still having trouble with control (seven walks in 15.2 innings). But his batted-ball metrics at least look a lot better than from last season (88.6 mile-per-hour average exit velocity and 34.7% hard-hit rate). And both his opponents next week have been middle-of-the-road thus far. Put it all together, the 31-year-old should be in your lineup as a two-start pitcher.

Aaron Civale SP Rays

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th @ Angels – 5IP W 2ER (3R) 4H 1BB 4K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th vs. Angels + Saturday, April 20th @ Yankees

Not sure if Aaron Civale’s early K/9 of 9.53 will hold up for long (career mark of 8.15), but fantasy managers should probably take advantage of his early hot streak. Neither opponent next week has been destroying the ball, but both rank in the top half in runs per game (Yankees 12th and Angels 14th). Seems worth the start.

Kutter Crawford SP/RP Red Sox

Last start: Wednesday, April 10th vs. Orioles – 5IP 0ER 2H 4BB 6K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th vs. Guardians + Saturday, April 20st @ Pirates

I know it’s early and only a small sample size, but Kutter Crawford’s expected stats are jumping off the page at the moment (1.94 xERA/.135 xBA/.223 xwOBA). This hot start could be due to his sweeper which, according to Lance Brozdowski, is seeing a huge jump in zone rate (from 35% to 60%) and usage from 7% to 32%). If the control improves (eight walks in 15.2 innings), we could be looking at a breakout.

Kyle Harrison SP Giants

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th vs. Nationals – 6IP 3ER 5H 0BB 8K

2 start next week: Monday, April 15th @ Marlins + Saturday, April 20th vs. DBacks

Pretty solid start to the season for Kyle Harrison. His only misstep was against the Dodgers (hard to blame him). And he’ll draw a very favorable start in Miami (ranked dead last in wOBA). The DBacks are much better (ranked 7th in wOBA and averaging six runs per game), but Oracle Park could help the lefty out. It ranks out as the 6th best pitchers’ park (according Park Factors).

Jordan Hicks SP/RP Giants

Last start: Wednesday, April 10th vs. Nationals – 6IP W 1ER 4H 2BB 2K

2 starts next week: Tuesday, April 16th @ Marlins + Sunday, April 21st vs. DBacks

Pretty much the same as his teammate above, except Jordan Hicks also has RP eligibility. Points or categories, though, you’ve got to love the efficiency (just three walks in 18 innings) and the fact that the Giants are willing to let him go deep into games (two quality starts out of three).

Garrett Whitlock SP/RP Red Sox

Last start: Thursday, April 11th vs. Orioles – 5IP 1ER 4H 2BB 4K

2 starts next week: Tuesday, April 16th vs. Guardians + Sunday, April 21st @ Pirates

Three decent starts to begin the season (1.26 ERA/1.19 WHIP/10.05 K/9) make Garrett Whitlock a pretty safe points-league stream next week (at RP, especially). Both the Guardians and Pirates have been surprisingly potent so far (5th and 9th in runs per game), so categories could be risky. Depends on how your rotation is looking.

Frankie Montas SP/RP Reds

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th vs. Brewers – 5IP L 3ER (5R) 6H 1BB 4K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th @ Mariners + Sunday, April 21st vs. Angels

The Brew Crew have been hot out of the gate (3rd in wOBA and runs per game) so we can forgive Frankie Montas’s less-than-great start on Tuesday. He’s still sporting a 2.16 ERA/1.14 WHIP through 16.2 innings. And the matchups make a start or stream generally advisable. The Mariners are ranked just 27th in wOBA and the Angels are about league average.

Seth Lugo SP Royals

Last start: Wednesday, April 10th vs. Astros – 6IP W 2ER 7H 2BB 2K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th @ White Sox + Sunday, April 21st vs. Orioles

Though he might not blow hitters away on the regular, Seth Lugo has been a Quality Start machine. He’s three-for-three this season and piled up 17 last year, his first as a full-time starter. I like for it to continue against the White Sox (last in runs per game). The Orioles are a different story, but the crafty veteran might just find a way.

In the Right Situation, These Two-Start Pitchers Make Sense

Cody Bradford SP/RP Rangers

Last start: Wednesday, April 10th vs. A’s – 6.2IP W 0ER (1R) 5H 1BB 7K

2 starts next week:  Monday, April 15th @ Tigers + Saturday, April 20th @ Braves

On Thursday it was announced that Cody Bradford will remain in the Rangers’ rotation when Mike Lorenzen returns from the IL. This is on the strength of a fantastic start to the season (1.40 ERA/0.62 WHIP). Though it’s still unclear when Lorenzen will return, Bradford will be on regular rest on Monday. The second start is a scary one (Braves have the highest wOBA in baseball), but the Tigers are on the other side of the spectrum (26th) so hopefully, it evens out. The Rangers have seven games next week, so even if the 26-year-old is pushed back a day, he should get both starts. Makes the most sense for a points league, but the way the lefty is dealing, you wouldn’t be crazy to start him in a categories league.

Reynaldo Lopez RP Braves

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th vs. Mets – 6IP W 0ER 3H 3BB 6K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th @ Astros + Sunday, April 14th vs. Rangers

Reynaldo Lopez is making the transition from bullpen to starter look easy so far. He’s yielded just one run in his first 12 innings. That’s two quality starts which is most impressive for a converted starter. Love the RP eligibility for points leagues. I would say he should be started universally, but those two matchups next week will be a big test. Make sure he’s rostered at least.

Zack Littell SP/RP Rays

Last start: Wednesday, April 10th @ Angels – 4.1IP 1ER 6H 3BB 4K

2 starts next week: Tuesday, April 16th vs. Angels + Sunday, April 21st @ Yankees

Since the Rays converted Zack Littell to a starter last July, the righty has a 3.14 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. He didn’t dominate Wednesday but has been effective in all of his starts thus far (1.17 ERA!). The RP eligibility makes this a great points-league stream. If you really need an extra pitcher in a categories league, the two starts should add up to at least an honest strikeout total.

Louie Varland SP/RP Twins

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th vs. Dodgers – 5IP L 6ER 7H 3BB 6K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th @ Orioles + Saturday, April 20th vs. Tigers

Louie Varland’s early returns are pretty scary. But both of his starts have come against tough lineups. Plus, his velocity is still in line with improvements from last year. Given the RP eligibility, a points-league stream still makes sense as a two-start pitcher with decent matchups. Wait and see for categories, though.

Martin Perez SP/RP Pirates

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th vs. Tigers – 8IP 1ER 6H 0BB 7K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th @ Mets + Sunday, April 21st vs. Red Sox

Useful in stretches, Martin Perez has started strong. Though his 1.89 ERA comes with just a 7.11 K/9 so far, he’ll draw two decent opponents next week. The Mets are ranked 26th in runs per game. And Boston’s lineup is historically more potent in Fenway. RP eligibility makes this a nice points-league stream. Categories? Seems like you could do worse.

Reese Olson SP Tigers

Last start: Monday, April 8th @ Pirates – 4.1IP L 6ER 9H 3BB 3K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th vs. Rangers + Saturday, April 20th @ Twins

Given the rough start on Monday, I would limit this to a points-league streaming play. But I’m still optimistic the 24-year-old will be fantasy-relevant this season. And the Rangers haven’t been the juggernaut from last year yet (12th in runs per game). Plus, the Twins have been downright bad (28th).

Ben Brown SP Cubs

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th @ Padres – 4.2 IP 0ER 3H 1BB 5K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th @ DBacks + Saturday, April 20th vs. Marlins

According to Fangraphs, Ben Brown is the 3rd-ranked prospect in the Cubs organization. Seems like big strikeout upside (11.8 K/9 across 297 innings) here and he currently has Justin Steele’s rotation spot. I’d be nervous for that DBacks start, but he makes for a nice stream in a deep league with the potential to hold long-term.

You Better Be Desperate To Start These Two-Start Pitchers

A.J. Puk SP/RP Marlins

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th @ Yankees – 4.2IP L 1ER 4H 5BB 2K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th vs. Giants + Saturday, April 21st @ Cubs

Lots of walks (14 in 10.2 innings) and not enough whiffs (just 21.6% so far) have led to some pretty horrible results (7 earned runs and a 2.44 WHIP) for AJ Puk. Still some upside there, but I don’t want him anywhere near my lineup. Probably not my roster either outside of deep leagues.

Casey Mize SP Tigers

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th @ Pirates – 5IP 2ER 5H 1BB 2K

2 starts next week: Tuesday, April 16th vs. Rangers + Sunday, April 21st @ Twins

Though he’s not without pedigree and upside, Casey Mize will have to show more than seven swinging strikes (on 87 pitches Tuesday) for me to trust him enough in my lineup.

Jon Gray SP Rangers

Last start: Thursday, April 11 vs. A’s – 5IP L 1ER 3H 1BB 9K

2 starts next week: Tuesday, April 16th @ Tigers + Sunday, April 21st @ Braves

Is a rebound performance against the lowly A’s enough to erase his two belabored starts (seven runs in 7.1 innings) to open the season? Maybe, if he was just facing the Tigers (26th in wOBA) next week. But no way do I want him in my lineup when he pitches against the Braves (1st in wOBA) next weekend. Unless I’m desperate in a points league.

Spencer Arrighetti SP Astros

Last start: Wednesday, April 10th @ Royals – 3IP L 7ER 7H 3BB 3K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th vs. Braves + Sunday, April 21st @ Nationals

Though his debut was a bit of a disaster, Spencer Arrighetti will get at least one more turn in the rotation. Given that it’s the Braves (1st in wOBA so far), that second start is much less likely. But do keep an eye on the rookie.

Erick Fedde SP White Sox

Last start: Wednesday, April 10th @ Guardians – 5IP 4ER (5R) 4H 3BB 3K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th vs. Royals + Sunday, April 21st @ Phillies

Don’t want to totally dismiss the success Erick Fedde had in Korea (MVP last season), but that dominance is not translating well so far (4.30 ERA/1.43 WHIP). I’ll pass for now.

Patrick Sandoval SP Angels

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th vs. Rays – 5IP L 4ER 6H 3BB 6K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th @ Rays + Saturday, April 20th @ Reds

The strikeouts have been there for Patrick Sandoval (15 in 12.1 innings), but as always, so have the walks (7). Until that’s sorted, I’m out.

Wade Miley SP Brewers

Last start: Wednesday, April 10th @ Reds – 4IP 1ER 1H 2BB 0K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th vs. Padres + Sunday, April 21st @ Cardinals

Coming off the IL, Wade Miley survived his start in Cincinnati. He could be relevant in deeper leagues at some point, but you might want to at least wait until he builds up a little. The 37-year-old threw just 53 pitches on Wednesday.

Jose Soriano RP Angels

Last start: Wednesday, April 10th vs. Rays – 4IP L 4ER 6H 0BB 6K

2 starts next week: Tuesday, April 16th @ Rays + Sunday, April 21st @ Reds

Though his first start didn’t yield good results, Jose Soriano might be a player to watch if you’re in a deep league (especially deep points). He settled in after some early trouble against the Rays and will get a chance for revenge this week. If you’re desperate, and all the players from the other three sections are gone, maybe.

Kyle Hendricks SP Cubs

Last start: Wednesday, April 10th @ Padres – 5IP L 7ER 9H 0BB 2K

2 starts next week: Tuesday, April 16th @ DBacks + Sunday, April 21st vs. Marlins

Three disastrous starts so far for Kyle Hendricks (17 earned runs in 12.2 innings). Zero interest here.

Ryan Weathers SP Marlins

Last start: Wednesday, April 10th @ Yankees – 5IP W 0ER 3H 3BB 1K

2 starts next week: Tuesday, April 16th vs. Giants + Sunday, April 21st @ Cubs

Ryan Weathers wasn’t bad on Wednesday. But I refuse to believe you don’t have a better option.

Ross Stripling SP/RP Athletics’s

Last start: Wednesday, April 10th @ Rangers – 6IP L 6ER 11H 3BB 5K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th vs. Cardinals + Sunday, April 21st @ Guardians

In points leagues, Ross Stripling could at least eat some innings (18 over his first three starts) and he’s RP eligible. But if you’re looking for anything other than that, look somewhere else.

Adrian Houser SP Mets

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th @ Braves – 5IP L 5ER 8H 2BB 1K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th vs. Pirates + Sunday, April 21st @ Dodgers

We can give Adrian Houser a pass on his recent start against the Braves (1st in wOBA). But next week he’ll draw the Dodgers (2nd) and Pirates (amazingly 6th). Plus, he’s also not very fantasy-relevant.

Cole Irvin SP/RP Orioles

Last start: Wednesday, April 11th @ Red Sox – 5IP 5ER 7H 3BB 4K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th vs. Twins + Sunday, April 21st @ Royals

No interest in Cole Irvin. Nine earned runs in his first 10 innings, plus some uncertainty about when John Means will return to the rotation, makes this an easy choice.

Cal Quantrill SP Rockies

Last start: Tuesday, April 9th vs. DBacks – 6IP L 3ER 8H 0BB 6K

2 starts next week: Monday, April 15th @ Phillies + Sunday, April 21st vs. Mariners

Though he’s coming off a strong start against a good offense, no underlying numbers suggest there’s anything to see here. It’s tough enough rostering or trusting any Colorado pitchers as it is.
