It has taken a while for sports to embrace advanced statistics. It really started in baseball when the book Moneyball came out in 2003. Moneyball was about the 2001 Oakland Athletics new approach to baseball where the GM Billy Beane would value players based on stats or sabermetrics rather than what scouts used to just look at players.
