Fantrax Injury Report – Anthony Rizzo’s not doing well

Here is the Fantrax Injury Report for Friday, August 4, 2023. In today’s edition, the Angels may lose Shohei Ohatni, the pitcher, for a start in the near future, as he deals with middle-finger cramping. Also, Mike Trout will start taking swings with contact on the ball, which is a major development for him. Finally, Jonah Heim seems to have avoided the catastrophic news we all thought he was facing and he could return this year. All that and more in the latest Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report

Jonathan India – 2B Cincinnati Reds

India has been ramping up his on-field workouts as of late, with the hopes of returning sometime next week. The Reds feel that he will miss the minimum of ten days and be back on the 8th when he’s first eligible.

Jose Urquidy – SP Houston Astros

Assuming all goes well with his final bullpen session, Urquidy should pitch this Sunday. Be prepared.

Shohei Ohtani – SP/UT Los Angeles Angels

Ohtani has dealt with cramping for quite some time, and it seems to only affect his pitching. It’s important to note that he did hit a home run in the eighth inning of this game, as the finger clearly didn’t hurt enough to stop him from hitting for power. That said, there should be updates soon letting us know his status. The team is deep enough with pitching that they could afford to miss one turn through the rotation.

Brandon Drury – INF Los Angeles Angels

Once Drury is able to do this, we should see him back up with the Angels. It should be noted too that Drury did hit a home yesterday in his first rehab game after that announcement.

Mike Trout – OF Los Angeles Angels

This is a big step forward, as contact with the ball will help Trout understand what pain (if any) he can tolerate. Once he completes this stage, it may just be a matter of time before a rehab assignment can begin.

Max Muncy – INF Los Angeles Dodgers

Muncy got hit by a pitch and had to leave the game in the sixth inning. With X-rays being negative, it appears that things are structurally fine. Consider him DTD with the hope of avoiding a trip to the Injured List.

J.D. Martinez – UT Los Angeles Dodgers

In a surprising turn of events, it looks like Martinez will avoid the Injured List altogether. Things seem to be feeling better as he was able to participate in the team’s batting practice. Fingers crossed that this progression continues and he does in fact return on Saturday.

Clayton Kershaw – SP Los Angeles Dodgers

The ups and downs for Kershaw continue. While it seems encouraging that he could return next week, keep in mind that there were reports of him returning this week. Stay tuned.

Brandon Woodruff – SP Milwaukee Brewers

Be prepared.

Byron Buxton – UT Minnesota Twins

Consider Buxton DTD while he sorts out this hamstring tightness. That said, knowing him and his injury history, it’s likely more of a days-to-days situation.

Joe Ryan – SP Minnesota Twins

Ryan will miss at least two weeks with an injured groin. The hope is that he can get that part of his body, along with his mind and his arm, back to full strength for the playoff push. He has been awful in the second half of the season, so some time off may do him some good.

Starling Marte – OF New York Mets, Brandon Nimmo – OF New York Mets

It looks like both Marte and Nimmo will be back this weekend. As for Marte, this could be a lingering issue that will stay with him for a while. He may have to figure out how to play through it.

Anthony Rizzo – 1B New York Yankees

This is scary in its own right. Most of this is probably attributed to the collision of Tatis and Rizzo earlier in the season. Looking at the video, you can see Rizzo’s head and neck snap backward. Since that time, he has not been himself and his numbers show a drastic drop in production. The slower reaction time cements how difficult it must have been for him to play all year. Here’s hoping that he gets the help he needs to recover and be his old self.

Nestor Cortes – SP New York Yankees

Be prepared.

Nolan Gorman – 2B/3B St. Louis Cardinals

Consider Gorman DTD with the possibility of returning today.

Shane McClanahan – SP Tampa Bay Rays

This does not sound good at all. McClanahan will be going for more imaging and testing, which could mean that he will miss extended time with a serious injury. While that’s all speculation for now, just know that we should have this all figured out soon enough.

Jonah Heim – C Texas Rangers

It turns out that it was only a partial tear in Heim’s wrist and that surgery could be postponed to the offseason or avoided altogether. That’s fantastic news for Heim and fantasy owners. However, we don’t yet know when he’ll be back, but there’s a chance that he returns for the final month of the season.
