Fantasy Hockey Week 14 Goalie Streams – 01/08/24

The 14th week of the 2023-24 NHL season is beginning and there are strong goalie options to add. Whether you need netminders for your fantasy hockey team this week or a bit longer, we’ll cover the best netminders to pick up. When looking for goalie streams in fantasy hockey, it’s best to look at back-to-backs and if there are injuries to starters. That’s what we have for you here today. This is a look at the three best options in net to stream in Week 14 of the fantasy hockey season.

Fantasy Hockey Week 14 Goalie Streams

Samuel Ersson, Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers have been struggling a bit lately but still put up a good fight in all of their games as expected from John Tortorella. This makes them a threat in all games and gives the goaltenders a bit of relief. Both goalies for the Flyers have been good this season and are a reason the team is in the position they’re in. While Carter Hart is rostered in most fantasy leagues in any format, Samuel Ersson is not.

Ersson is the so-called backup, but has just five fewer starts than Hart this season and better numbers in certain areas. He has a .904 save percentage (SV%), which is a little lower than Hart’s, but has registered more shutouts (2), has a better goals-against average (2.50), and has a higher quality start percentage (.688). In a week where the Flyers play four times, two of the opponents being at .500, and having a back-to-back, it’s likely each goalie will see two games. That’s better than most goalies you can add off the waiver wire. Ersson should either get to face the Pittsburgh Penguins and Minnesota Wild or the Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets.

Anton Forsberg, Ottawa Senators

There are problems with the Ottawa Senators, their goaltending included, but Anton Forsberg has proven to be more effective recently than starter Joonas Korpisalo. This should earn Forsberg two of the three starts this week if the Senators want the best chance to get back in the playoff race. He is coming off a strong performance against the Edmonton Oilers in which he stopped 43 of 46 shots for a .935 SV%.

Forsberg has two such strong performances in his last three games, while Korpisalo has one game where he registered over a .900 SV% over his past nine games. The Senators match up against the Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, and the San Jose Sharks. This is a very easy schedule for this week, so the hope is that the Senators can take advantage. None of these teams have had an easy time scoring goals this season.

Casey DeSmith, Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks lead off this week with a back-to-back against the New York Rangers and the New York Islanders. The Rangers are the more difficult team to face, but they are up first, so Thatcher Demko should get the start. Casey DeSmith should get the start in the second game. The Islanders are as proficient at scoring goals and have just four wins in their past 10 games.

It isn’t highly likely, but since the Canucks play four games this week, DeSmith has a slight chance of starting a second game against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday. This is just due to them being an easier opponent and giving Demko a rest sometimes. If not, DeSmith gets an early start in the week and then you can take a look at one of the other solid options for the remainder of the week and get even more starts. The Canucks are a very strong team and DeSmith has a .912 SV%.

Make sure to take advantage of these goalies for this week. The longer you wait, the more of a chance someone you may want is picked up before you get to them. There are early games that you will want to take advantage of as well. While a couple of these goaltenders should get at least one start this week, be sure to keep an eye on any other options throughout the week that may become solid options as well.
