Fantasy Basketball Stock Report 12/29/22

We’re back with the last Fantasy Basketball Stock Report of the calendar year. As we turn our attention toward 2023, we shall once again look to identify a handful of players whose fantasy basketball stock is quickly on the move. This could be a result of injuries, rotational adjustments, or simply finding a rhythm on the hardwood, but the end result will be the same; a potentially significant impact to your fantasy basketball squad. So let’s dive right in and examine some names whose performance could carry some major weight across the fantasy landscape.

Fantasy Basketball Stock Report

Stock on the Rise

Jeremy Sochan, PF, San Antonio Spurs

After a slow start to his rookie campaign, Jeremy Sochan has come on strong of late, looking like a top-100 asset over the past ten days with plenty of room for growth. Sochan has reached double figures in four of his last five games while bringing down 9 rebounds in three of his last four. The former Baylor star also chips in a handful of assists and defensive stats, giving him across-the-board value for a rebuilding Spurs team that wants to get the rookie as many minutes as possible. As a result, his fantasy basketball stock is quickly on the rise and it should only go higher as the season progresses.

Jalen Williams, SG/SF, Oklahoma City Thunder

Sticking with rookies, Jalen Williams is another guy playing for a rebuilding team whose role should only expand as the season moves along. Williams has reached double figures in eight of his last nine while bringing down 7 or more rebounds in three of his last four. More importantly perhaps, is the fact that the first-round pick has topped 30 minutes played in each of his last eight contests. Shooting 58% or better from the floor in six of his last nine as well, Williams is seeing his fantasy basketball stock rise quickly as a solid wing with a lot of potential. It should only increase as his offensive role continues to expand.

Stock on the Decline

Moritz Wagner, PF/C, Orlando Magic

After a strong stretch thanks in large part due to Wendell Carter missing time with an injury, Moritz Wagner is quickly seeing his fantasy basketball stock take a nose dive as his minutes have gone down in consecutive games. Going from 28 to 26 to 22 was already bad enough, but playing just 12 minutes last night and getting into a brawl with Detroit’s Killian Hayes was not the best look to earn more playing time. With Carter fully back into the swing of things, Wagner’s value looks to be all but gone moving forward, barring another injury.

Andrew Nembhard, PG/SG, Indiana Pacers

Sticking with the rookie theme, Andrew Nembhard had quite an impressive stretch at the end of November and early December, but his production has trailed off considerably over the past couple of weeks. The former Gonzaga product has failed to reach double figures in six of his last seven games, and topped out at 10 points in the one game in which he did. Furthermore, the assists have gone down as well with Nembhard having less control of the offense, and his shooting efficiency has also declined. Overall, he will probably have another nice stretch at some point, because the talent is there, but the lack of opportunity and consistency severely limit his fantasy basketball potential.
