Week 4 Wide Receiver Sleepers: Kirk Ready to Break Out

Week 3 is in the books. Players like Kenny Golladay and Chris Godwin who used to be in articles like this have been upgraded and can no longer be referred to as sleepers. Now we search for more breakout candidates. More wide receivers that can win us weeks. Last week Sammy Watkins made it into this piece because he has held without a touchdown in Patrick Mahomes’ six-touchdown game. In Week 3, Watkins found paydirt. I hope you played Watkins. And I hope you will consider a couple of Week 4 wide receiver sleepers that I feel have a great chance at a touchdown in Week 4.

Week 4 Wide Receiver Sleepers

Christian Kirk, Arizona Cardinals

While Calvin Ridley will be the most added receiver this week (for good reason), another rookie wideout should be considered. Christian Kirk has been fairly quiet thus far into the 2018 season but he had a fantastic game on Sunday. Actually, he was far and away the most productive Cardinals wide receiver catching seven of eight targets for 90 yards.

Fantrax Football CommissionerWhat is even more encouraging for Kirk for Week 4 and the rest of the season is that Head Coach Steve Wilks has officially named Josh Rosen the starting quarterback. While the jury is still out on Rosen’s talent from a professional standpoint, he should be more aggressive than Sam Bradford which should be good for Kirk’s opportunity for upside.

While Larry Fitzgerald had a bad game last week, he should still be used heavily in the Cardinals offense. But, Kirk (5’10”, 201 pounds) has great speed and is a tremendous route runner which rookie quarterback Rosen should fall in love with.

Kirk and the Cardinals play the Seahawks in Week 4 who have given up the 12 most Fantasy points to wide receivers so far in 2018.

Ryan Grant, Indianapolis Colts

Grant has established himself in the Donte Moncrief role in Andrew Luck’s offense. Grant is the second option – opposite T.Y. Hilton- in standard packages.

In Week 1 Grant had nine targets and caught eight passes for 58 yards. In Week 3 he was targeted only four times but did catch a touchdown.

It seems that Grant is being used on shallow out routes within 10 yards which is quite the opposite as last year for the Redskins. His 9.5 yards per reception through three weeks are well under last years 12.7.

Grant was on the field for a season-high 85 percent of the Colts offensive snaps which means that he is the clear-cut WR2 for Luck. We have seen this role have success in the past. In 2015 Moncrief was the WR38 overall and in 2016 he had seven touchdowns.

Grant has the ability to turn any short pass into a long gain as his Agility Score is in the 91st percentile. This gives him a chance to take a short screen to the house. He may just have to do that if Luck cannot throw a ball more than 20 yards.

Grant is a solid add in 12-team leagues and can be flexed in Week 4 against the Texans who just allowed six catches for 80 yards and a touchdown on Sunday to Sterling Shepard.
