2019 NFL Draft: Tennessee Titans Select Jeffery Simmons

With the 19th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans selected defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from Mississippi State.

Tennessee made a pick with an eye on long-term impact when they selected defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. The Titans will have to wait to see any return on their Draft Day investment. Simmons suffered a torn ACL prior to the NFL combine. The injury may be part of the reason he fell in the draft.

Fantasy Impact of Jeffery Simmons

The junior lineman has all of the skills scouts look for at the position. He has the power to take on double teams and lateral movement needed to split the A-gap and stop the run. He tallied 123 total tackles over his final two seasons, including 30 tackles for loss and seven sacks. Many experts contend that Simmons is a top-10 talent, so the Titans appear to have extracted excellent value with this pick. However, Simmons is a candidate to begin the year on the Physically Unable to Perform list. There is an outside chance that he could possibly miss the entire 2019 season. Because of these factors, there will be minimal impact for fantasy purposes.

Even though the pick is not likely to pay immediate fantasy dividends, Tennessee’s defense will have plenty of productive weeks this season. They finished 11th in total fantasy points last year and should finish somewhere in that range once again in 2019. If Simmons does make his way onto the field this season, his presence will only help. Tennessee finished 18th in total rushing yards allowed and 15th in yards per carry. Having Simmons on the field could make the Titans a top-10 fantasy defense.
