2019 NFL Draft: 49ers Select Defensive End Nick Bosa

With the 2nd pick the San Francisco 49ers pick DE Nick Bosa out of Ohio State

The 49ers may not have had the top selection but they escape the 2019 NFL Draft with the top player on most draft expert’s boards in Nick Bosa. Brother of San Diego Charger Joey Bosa, Nick is considered the better prospect of the two coming out of college. The 266-pounder was considered a Dark Horse 2018 Heisman candidate until an injured Core muscle derailed a promising senior season.

The 2017 Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the year has a high motor with excellent size and strength going into the NFL. He tears through single blocks with ease and can operate out of both 4-3 and 3-4 defensive schemes. He’s got a strong lower body and attacks the edge like a nose tackle attacks the middle, aggressively. He’s always looking to make a play on the ball instead of focusing too much on the tackler and he has great hand movement to help him shed blocks.

It is important to note that he did miss almost all of the 2018 season due to his Core injury and we haven’t seen him on the field since. He’s not quite as fluid as his brother Joey and has issues changing direction which can be an issue making tackles.

Fantasy Impact of Nick Bosa

Although some won’t get the chance to take Nick Bosa given that he’s a defensive end, his impact won’t go unnoticed. For those dudes out there ruling over their IDP leagues, if you want a guy that will get after the quarterback and make sacks for you Bosa is your man. He led his team in sacks in 2017 with 8.5 despite only starting four of the 14 games he played in.

The 49ers were already shopping Solomon Thomas who they took 3rd overall in 2017 and hasn’t quite produced like many expected he would. Bosa needs to prove he’s still got it on the field after facing injury all last season. A player of his pedigree does not give me any worries and I fully expect him to take the field with the first-teamers against Tampa Bay week one. If you own Solomon Thomas you need to find a way to get his replacement for this season or you’ll regret it.
