Week 7 IDP Waiver Wire and Breakout Defensive Players

Every week throughout the NFL season I will bring you an IDP article talking about anything and everything that consists of IDP. I will talk about IDP Breakout players, keep tabs on possible waiver-wire additions and some IDP Sleeper plays during the year. It should be fun. Let’s take a look at some of my favorite Breakout IDP Performances and Waiver-Wire Moves headed into Week 7 of the NFL Season.

Week 7 IDP Waiver Wire Breakouts

Justin Madubulke, DT Baltimore Ravens

He isn’t usually a name you hear when drafting IDP players in fantasy, but Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Justin Madubulke has put together a quiet but successful season so far. He isn’t a big name and might still be out there in your IDP leagues.

Madubulke has 17 tackles and 4.5 sacks this season.  He is in the top 10 of scoring for defensive tackles, so if you need help in a league that starts DT, go see if he is available.

Nick Bonitto, DE Denver Broncos

Second-year defensive end Nick Bonitto has finally taken over the starting defensive end role for the Denver Broncos. The Broncos have recently traded or cut Frank Clark and Randy Gregory, giving Bonitto the job full-time. He has responded with an over 75% snap share in the last couple of weeks.

For the season he has 18 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. His numbers should improve as he gets a full-time workload moving forward this season. Bonitto is worth a pickup in redraft leagues and especially in dynasty leagues as he should see a Lion’s share of the snaps on the edge for the rest of the season.

Jahlani Tavai, LB New England Patriots

There were questions surrounding the New England Patriots linebacking core this offseason. We are just starting to see things come into focus.

Fourth-year linebacker Jahlani Tavai has started to step it up for the Patriots. He broke out in Week 6 with over 20 fantasy points in a majority of leagues. He has been in double-digit scoring in four out of six weeks this season. Tavai doesn’t get a lot of peripheral statistics, but he does have 37 tackles, one sack, and one interception this season.

With injuries and bye weeks upon us, Tavai is a good player to pick up and play in your lineup.

Kendall Fuller, CB Washington Commanders

If you need a cornerback to plug and play, Kendall Fuller could be your man. He had a monster game last week with nine tackles, two passes defensed, and one interception for the Washington Commanders.

He has been a decent start this season, but with cornerbacks, it’s always hit-and-miss. But Fuller seems like a good guy to take a chance on.

Julian Blackmon, S Indianapolis Colts

Julian Blackmon has been an interesting prospect for the Indianapolis Colts. He started his career as a free safety but moved to strong safety this season and it has paid off in IDP scoring.

Blackmon has been a double-digit scorer this entire season. He has 42 tackles with one pass defensed and one interception. He hasn’t had any huge scoring days yet, but the peripheral scoring seems like it is going to happen eventually. He is getting the snap share you want and should continue to be productive on an Indy defense that has been solid.

Justin Simmons, S Denver Broncos

Justin Simmons has been banged up most of the season. The veteran DB finally returned to the lineup in Week 6 against the Kansas City Chiefs and produced. Simmons got 100% of the snap share against the Chiefs, so he is fully back in the lineup. He had five tackles, one tackle for a loss, one pass defended, and one interception.

That was good for nearly 20 fantasy points in most leagues. If he stays healthy, Simmons is a top-end safety play in most IDP formats for the rest of the season.
