MLB Prospects Injury Report

Druw Jones – OF Arizona Diamondbacks

Jones is getting himself ready to rejoin Single-A Visalia, after missing significant time with a quad strain. In his four games since starting at the complex, he has two hits over nine at-bats with one strikeout and one walk. He is likely to remain there to get his body back into some sort of rhythm before returning to Visalia, where he began the year. Jones is baseball’s tenth-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Zac Veen – OF Colorado Rockies

Definitely, a hard pill to swallow for someone with so much potential. Harding later goes on to say that Veen had been pushing through the pain of this injury in order to try to make the majors this year. There’s been no indication that doing so caused the injury to get even worse, but it’s certainly something that couldn’t have helped. Further to that, it’s not known if this injury sapped his power at all or if it was more of him trying to adjust to pitchers. Finally, Harding corrected himself by stating the tore a tendon, and not a ligament. All in all, it’s not the situation that he or the Rockies want to be in. Veen is baseball’s 28th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Jackson Jobe – RHP Detroit Tigers

It was a second strong performance for Jobe, who now has pitched 4.2 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts over his two appearances. Even more encouraging is the Velo jump, as Jobe touched at least 98 mph three times in this game. He is still at least a year away from debuting with the Tigers, but if he continues along this trajectory, he could be quite intriguing for them. Jobe is Detroit’s third-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Logan O’Hoppe

Technically O’Hoppe is still a prospect, so he qualifies to be here. Earlier this week, he resumed baseball activities by playing catch from a short distance. It was a nice small step onto the field, but a big jump for him. While recovering, O’Hoppe has said that he’s been feeling back to normal since the beginning of June. He’s been lifting low weights to keep in shape and has progressed to being able to crouch down like a catcher and hold a bat like a hitter. That being said, he has yet to be cleared to swing. Arguably the biggest growth that he’s had has been talking to both catchers non-stop and learning from their viewpoints about how things should be done. O’Hoppe is baseball’s 37th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Ben Joyce – RHP Los Angeles Angels

Joyce had a big scare earlier in the month where his fingers felt numb and his arm had a tingling sensation. Since then, things have subsided, but he’s still not close to returning, as he has no timetable for that set. The team will likely take things slowly with him, as there is some upside here as a future closer. Joyce is Los Angeles’s 9th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Sixto Sanchez – RHP Miami Marlins

The team has been very quiet regarding Sanchez since this injury. All that we know is that he’s suffered a setback and won’t be pitching anytime soon. Once again, it’s the waiting game with Sanchez, and it’s understandable if people don’t want to wait anymore. Sanchez is Miami’s 11th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Sal Frelick – OF Milwaukee Brewers

Frelick fouled a ball off of his knee and there was a scare that it would be something serious. Instead, he should be considered DTD as it stands while the bruising goes away. Since returning from an injury earlier in the season, Frelick had a .333/.500/.556 slash line with only three walks and two strikeouts. He does have four stolen bases on the (Minor-League) season, but no home runs. He is a candidate to be called up this summer and take a job in the outfield. He’s definitely a stash candidate for his speed. Frelick is baseball’s 20th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Andrew Painter – RHP Philadelphia Phillies

Slowly, but surely, Painter is progressing toward his Major League debut. Whether or not that comes this year, remains to be seen. Painter will undoubtedly have a lengthy rehab assignment once he pitches, but that’s if the team intends him to pitch this year. They may opt for him to get his feet wet late in the season after some time in the Minor Leagues. That being said, it’s only June, so a September call-up isn’t out of the question either. It’s all about how the team views their chances as they look to win a World Series title. Painter is baseball’s 9th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Curtis Mead – INF Tampa Bay Rays

The information regarding Mead’s injury was vague, but we do know that he spent a long time recovering. Chances are there was significant damage done with a possible break/fracture involved. It will be interesting to see how he hits once he’s back with Triple-A Durham. He has gone hitless since arriving on that rehab assignment. Mead is baseball’s 23rd-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Jack Leiter – RHP Texas Rangers

In what could possibly be an injury, this is something to monitor. Leitehr has already thrown more than 60 innings this season, and the team would like to keep his totals in check. As stated in the article, Leiter had pitched only 48 innings last season by the end of June, so this uptick might be concerning to the team. His highest career total for innings pitched in a season happened in 2021 while with Vanderbilt where he threw 110.0 innings that year. He has struggled over his last few starts, so the team wanted to be extra careful with him. Leiter is baseball’s 72nd-ranked prospect, according to MLB.

Addison Barger – SS Toronto Blue Jays

The question here, as answered by Keegan Matheson, is an answer to the question of Barger being called up this season. For the sake of why you’re reading this, it’s included here because of that last sentence. The team seems to have reset his season after his injury, and thus, it’s likely that they take their time with him. He is finally back with Triple-A Buffalo, after six uneventful rehab assignment games. Barger is Toronto’s 6th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.
