MLB Injury Report

Sean Murphy – C Atlanta Braves

Usually, players that have returned in some capacity aren’t included here. However, given the fact that Murphy won’t be catching and may miss time, his status is updated.

Alex Verdugo – OF Boston Red Sox

Verdugo was placed on the team’s bereavement list and won’t be back for a while. His family is wished the best.

Will Brennan – OF Cleveland Guardians

Brennan’s status was discussed near the end of the interview. Francona said that he is sore, nothing more. That said, when asked about an IL-stint, he did admit that they need to “get through this weekend” and then discuss whether or not he will go on the Injured List.

Miami Marlins – Team Update

A lot to unpack here. Matt Barnes will likely throw a few more bullpen sessions before heading out for a rehab assignment. Avisail Garcia hasn’t done anything baseball-related since his setback on June 3. With the way that the team’s outfield is performing, there is absolutely no rush to return. Johnny Cueto struggled in his latest rehab outing last night and may need another before returning. As for Jazz Chisholm Jr., he made a diving catch in the outfield last night. Trevor Rogers still being shut down is concerning, as he hasn’t done anything since his non-throwing shoulder got hurt. It’s encouraging that Jean Segura is now running, so soon after heading to the Injured List.

Aaron Judge – OF New York Yankees

The team recently stated that Judge had turned a corner with his latest PRP shot, so this might be the next step. He will be able to test out his toe and foot by balancing and strengthening his lower body. If we see him advancing to the aforementioned throwing and light hitting soon, then we know he’s turned a corner.

Willie Calhoun – OF New York Yankees

Until Calhoun’s MRI results are known, a timeline for his return won’t be ready. He said prior to this that he felt a “pop”, so a short-term absence isn’t necessarily in the cards.

Bryan Reynolds – OF Pittsburgh Pirates

Reynolds had missed games prior to this, so his official date is retroactive to June 20. It was originally stated that he wouldn’t require a trip to the Injured List, but that status has apparently changed. This seems on the borderline of “just serious enough, but nothing overly concerning”, however, time will tell just how bad it really is.

Mitch Haniger – OF San Francisco Giants

Haniger has already been ruled out until late-August, so this move gives the team an open roster spot.

Mike Yastrzemski – OF San Francsico Giants

Consider Yastrzemski DTD until we hear otherwise.

Shane McClanahan – SP Tampa Bay Rays

We saw the frustration in McLanahan’s body last night after getting pulled early. The fact that his back issues have been lingering for a while now is somewhat concerning. It’s hopeful that he will be able to avoid the Injured List, but two weeks off might be exactly what he needs to shake this off and come back stronger.
