2024 Fantasy Baseball: Starting Pitcher Rankings for Points and Roto

Remember that head start you swore you were going to get on the fantasy baseball season for this year? The clock is ticking, friend. With less than two weeks until Pitchers and Catchers report, the 2024 MLB season is almost upon us. Fear not though, as the team at FantraxHQ has your back with all the information you’ll need to crush your draft. As the saying goes, Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance. So get cracking on those sheets, fantasy friends! In pitching we (kinda) trust, so there’s no better place to start than on the mound. Below are our Updated 2024  Starting Pitcher Rankings, complete with two lists: one for Points Leagues and one for Roto as well as Head-to-Head leagues

One thing to note: These starting pitcher rankings are to be used as a jumping-off point, a rough guideline for how players stack up right now. So many things can, and will, change between now and the start of the season. As Joe Strummer famously said, “The future is unwritten.”

The Reasoning Behind the Rankings

To put together a comprehensive analysis, we are using four different categories:

  1. Projected Auction Value, using the ATC projection system
  2. Strikeout minus Walk Percentage (K-BB%)
  3. Strikeouts per 9 Innings (K/9)
  4. Innings Pitched (IP)

These allow us to piece together a complete picture of a pitcher: durability, control, stuff, and value within the game.

As noted above, we’ve updated these starting pitcher rankings utilizing ATC, the projection system found to be one of the most accurate.

We’ve also been busy in the active market, both mock drafting with some other fantasy baseball writers and participating in NFBC draft-and-holds, in the hopes of getting a sense of how managers are valuing pitchers. Those real-life decisions played a part in how players were moved up and down the list.

Stuff+, as well as Pitching+, will be playing a big role here and as soon as those numbers become available, a new list will be produced.

All projections are from Fangraphs using their Auction Calculator.
