Top-360 Rankings for 2QB Leagues

We are less than two weeks away from NFL training camps being open and fantasy football draft season is in full gear. One of the formats that have been gaining increased momentum among fantasy football enthusiasts in recent years is 2QB leagues. There are several reasons for this trend. First, 2QB leagues offer more scoring opportunities. My current projections for the upcoming season have 16 players scoring at least 300 points using PPR scoring. 13 of the 16 are quarterbacks. More points and action make for more excitement as you sweat your weekly matchups. The added spot in your starting lineup also means you will likely need a complete roster to win each week. This makes for a more competitive atmosphere, both during the draft and throughout the season when it comes to adding new players.

What!? Your fantasy football league wasn’t hosted on Fantrax last season!? Once you see how Fantrax stacks up to the competition, we think you’ll be singing a different tune this season.

Another reason I like 2QB leagues is that it adds extra layers of intrigue and strategy during the draft itself. Our current ADP shows that 16 of the first 24 players chosen are running backs in 1QB PPR leagues. However, in 2QB leagues, that will not be the case. Because quarterbacks score so many points, they are extremely valuable assets. In addition, since you must start two, you cannot afford to wait on the position as you would typically do in a standard format. There have been times in 1QB leagues where you don’t even have to pick a quarterback until the very end of the draft. In most years there is not a lot of difference between, for example, QB9 and QB14. But there is a much larger difference between QB13 and QB24. Grabbing two quality quarterbacks becomes of paramount importance when competing in a 2QB league.

I believe the extra quarterback spot increases the edge a savvy fantasy manager has during the draft. If you have identified value picks at other positions later in the draft, you will be at a greater advantage when you attack the quarterback position early. I also feel that 2QB leagues do a better job of accurately reflecting the current NFL landscape. There are so many talented signal-callers nowadays that the position should have better representation at the fantasy football table. We start change-of-pace running backs and third-down receivers with regularity in fantasy football. And whenever a starting running back or wideout gets injured, we do not hesitate to pick up a third, fourth, or even fifth-string player to fill the void. Yet for whatever reason, an 18-week starter at quarterback can sit on the waiver wire all season long. That will not happen in a 2QB league.

Below are my top-360 rankings for 2QB leagues. These also incorporate PPR scoring as opposed to standard scoring. As you can see based on my rankings below, these are dramatically different from standard 1QB rankings. Even with the PPR element, quarterbacks are pushed way to the top. This has an inverse effect on the rest of the player pool, but it is still important to find value throughout the draft at those other positions as well. I hope that this format becomes more mainstream in the coming years, as more young quarterbacks continue to develop.
