The Weekly Irish Prospect Report: 4 More Prospects to Consider for Dynasty Leagues

It’s a fairly slowish week as camp has broken and we are still waiting for minor league baseball to start.  That said, I still have some prospects for you to collect or watch out for my friends.  Also, to note Dylan Dodd was called up and pitches today for the Braves.

Your league didn’t use Fantrax this season? Preposterous! Check out all that Fantrax has to offer and we think your entire league will make a change for next season.

The Weekly Irish Prospect Report:  Week 4

Benny Montgomery, Rockies

With a first-round pedigree, Benny Montgomery has quickly established himself as a future star in the Rockies system.  Montgomery is a plus athlete with a great work ethic.  That may be to his detriment as he works too hard and will try to play through injuries.  With a borderline elite power tool, he should fit in well in the launchpad pad known as Coors Field.  He is a forgotten prospect as most people would be scared off due to him playing in Colorado.  He will start in high-A ball this season.  I hope he finishes the season at AA or maybe even sniffs a September call-up.

Matt Allan, Mets

A name known in many fantasy circles for a few years now injuries have taken their toll on young Matt Allan.  Coming back from Tommy John surgery, he was one of the names that wasn’t on the table in the trade for Lindor a few years back.  With an almost 70-grade fastball and a well-above-average curve, Allan does have ace-type potential.  If the change-up can come along, he will have a tough three-pitch mix.  Alas, he had TJ complications and won’t be available until 2024.  People he’s only 21.  Buy low alert for sure.

Prelander Berroa, Mariners

Originally thought to be an INF prospect he was moved through a few systems before landing in Seattle.  He has settled into a hard-throwing projected relief pitcher.  Berroa does have the dreaded fastball and slider combo, but he is bringing along a changeup that would offset his fastball and give opposing batters fits.  The young pitcher is currently in AA and will be in the starting rotation as the Seattle organization hopes for him to evolve into something more.  There is work that needs to be done on the control side for him to get out of his relief pitch projection.

Ben Joyce, Angels

It’s not too often you come across a pitcher with an 80-grade fastball.  Luke Little and maybe a few others have it currently.  Ben Joyce has it.  He can throw 105 MPH and maybe more.  There’s no beating around the bush.  Joyce will be a relief pitcher.  He doesn’t have the stuff to be a started, but his floor is a major league bullpen.  There may need to be some mechanical adjustments along the way so Joyce doesn’t blow out his shoulder, but we could see him this year.
