Here is the Fantrax Injury Report for Tuesday, July 25, 2023. Inside today’s edition, both Shane Bieber and Ryan Helsley have been placed on the 60-day Injured List, as their returns will need extended time away. Also, there’s a potential delay in the return of Hyun-Jin Ryu to the active lineup, and it might be more strategic than anything. Finally, Merrill Kelly will likely make his long-awaited return to the Diamondbacks. All of this and more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report

Merrill Kelly – SP Arizona Diamondbacks

Be prepared.

Aaron Hicks – OF Baltimore Orioles

The injury doesn’t appear to be too serious, and Hicks should be back at some point in the near future.

Shane Bieber – SP Cleveland Guardians

Bieber was in the middle of being shut down from throwing for two weeks and had another week left of that preliminary plan. Now, this gives him additional time to throw, while also more rest. One has to wonder if his season might be done altogether as he won’t be eligible to return until September 10. There’s no indication of him being ready by then anyways. Time will tell, but the team has indicated that surgery will not be needed and that rest is the best thing for him.

CJ Cron – 1B Colorado Rockies

There’s been no indication if Cron’s return is imminent or not, but it would appear that he is on his way back in the near future.

Jose Altuve – 2B Houston Astros

While this feels like speculation, Altuve is talented enough to do this. That being said, he hasn’t played since July 4, and he will have already surpassed three weeks away as of this writing.

Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros

Fantasy owners will unfortunately have to play the waiting game while Alvarez gets evaluated. Consider his return a day-by-day situation.

Noah Syndergaard – SP Los Angeles Dodgers

Syndergaard will have nine days remaining in his rehab after his outing on Thursday. He will continue to work on getting stretched out for a return to the rotation.

Clayton Kershaw – SP Los Angeles Dodgers

The team originally announced that his bullpen session from yesterday was pushed back. It turns out that it was only pushed back for one day. Kershaw has maintained that he’s felt great after each and every one of these sessions.

J.D. Martinez – UT Los Angeles Dodgers

Martinez was originally available to pinch-hit, but it turns out that plans had changed. Consider him DTD and keep an eye out for his status in today’s lineup.

Brandon Woodruff – SP Milwaukee Brewers

Woodruff just threw his first rehab game recently and things went smoothly. The team seemed very encouraged by the results. Time will tell how he feels after his second game and the team will have a better idea of his status then.

Byron Buxton – OF Minnesota Twins

The Buxton family is wished all the best.

Starling Marte – OF New York Mets

Marte is eligible to return on Thursday, so keep an eye on his status as we approach that day.

Ramon Laureano – OF Oakland Athletics

While this is speculation, it does make sense, given how well Laureano has looked during his rehab assignment. Stay tuned.

Willson Contreras – C St. Louis Cardinals

It looks like Contreras will be back in the lineup later today.

Ryan Helsley – RP St. Louis Cardinals

Helsley just recently threw a bullpen session last week, but has now been transferred to the 60-day Injured List. He is eligible to return on August 12, and there’s some concern that it might be later than that. He will undoubtedly need a rehab assignment before rejoining the Cardinals.

Adolis Garcia – OF Texas Rangers

Garcia was unable to grip a bat yesterday, hence his absence. He did say, however, that he thinks he’ll be ready to return later today. Stay tuned.

Hyun-Jin Ryu – SP Toronto Blue Jays

This definitely throws a wrench into anyone planning to activate Ryu in their fantasy leagues. The fact that the team will still cautiously approach him is eye-opening and should be noted. He is coming back so soon from a long-standing injury that takes a while to heal. It also looks like they’re strategizing how and when to bring him back, so as to manipulate their bench and know what they’re doing at the deadline. This could be another week of him on the Injured List.

Lane Thomas – OF Washington Nationals

Consider Thomas DTD as we wait to see an update later today.
