Fantasy Hockey Goalie Streams For Week 1

Ilya Sorokin (83%)

Chances are Sorokin is not available to you. However, with Semyon Varlamov (97%) on the shelf for likely at least the first week, it’s a safe bet that Sorokin gets both starts this week for the defensively sound New York Islanders. The Islanders face two very good teams on the road in Carolina on Thursday and Florida on Saturday. If you are lucky enough to be in a league where Sorokin is still on the wire, grab him now. He’s an excellent choice on any night he starts and this week will be a good chance for him to prove he’s ready for a bigger role with the Islanders.

Jake Allen (28%)

With Carey Price (87%) out indefinitely Jake Allen will be the de facto starter for the Montreal Canadiens. The Habs are one of nine teams that play three games this week. Allen is a lock to play at least two of them. Montreal goes on the road to Toronto on Wednesday and Buffalo on Thursday and ends the week at home against the New York Rangers on Saturday. Allen currently has low ownership but that won’t last long.

Kevin Lankinen (36%)

Now that future hall of fame goalie Marc-Andre Fleury (100%) is in town, Lankinen will only be expected to play a back up role in Chicago. The Blackhawks were surprisingly good last for much of last season. This year they look on paper like they may be even better. Lankinen could be a great spot start all season. The Blackhawks have a back-to-back situation on the weekend playing in New Jersey on Friday and Pittsburgh on Saturday. Lankinen will probably get one of those games and if we were guessing it will be on Friday versus the Devils so that Fleury gets the nod against his old team on Saturday.

Petr Mrazek (69%)

Jack Campbell (97%) will have to share the net this year with Mrazek. It’s unclear right now which goalie will play more. It’s likely to be a fairly even split or a situation where the coach rides the hot hand. In any case, the Leafs begin the season with a back-to-back on Wednesday/Thursday versus the Canadiens and the Senators. Mrazek will probably play one of them. If he’s available in your league Mrazek is a good bet. He will want to impress his new team in his first start.

Jaroslav Halak (11%)

The Vancouver Canucks start the season on a three game road trip with a back-to-back on Friday/Saturday. Starter Thatcher Demko (98%) is in line for two games, but Halak will likely get one of the weekend games either on Friday in Philadelphia or Saturday in Detroit. If none of the other better options above are available to you, then Halak is probably unowned in your league and could be a decent streaming option.
