Fantasy Football 2023: Week 5 Wide Receiver Rankings

Week 5 marks the first week of bye, and this shook up my wide receiver rankings for this week. Some notable top wide receivers that will be out this week include Kennan Allen, Mike Evans and DK Metcalf.

Luckily if you have Evans, he is going to have a week to recover from the hamstring injury he had in Week 4. But, Week 5 also means the possible return of Cooper Kupp. Though it will probably be a game-time decision if he plays. So, if Kupp doesn’t play this week or if you have Allen or Metcalf on a bye, these rankings will be clutch in finding a streamer option.

Wide Receiver Notes:

  • Speaking of wide receiver streamers, Romeo Doubs is my WR26 for Week 5. Doubs is only rostered in just about 55% of leagues on Yahoo and around 35% on ESPN. In back-to-back, games Doubs has had double-digit targets and double-digit fantasy points. In Week 3 he went for 72 yards and a touchdown on five receptions. And last week he had nine receptions for 95 yards. And in those games, he had 12 targets in Week 3 and 13 targets in Week 4. This week he has the Raiders who are giving up just over 30 fantasy points a game to wide receivers.
  • Puka Nacua is my WR8 of the week. He finally scored his first touchdown last week and is currently the league leader in receptions and targets. He has the Eagles’ defense, which should be a tough matchup. But, in reality, they have been terrible defending the passing game. They are the sixth-worst defense when it comes to giving up fantasy points to wide receivers. They also have given up the third most receiving touchdowns and third most completions on the year. Their rush defense is top-notch, but when it comes to receiving, Nacua is going to light it up.
  • Nico Collins is my WR19 of the week. However, he does have the Falcons this week who are a top-six defense in terms of fantasy points allowed to wide receivers. On the year they are a top-five defense in passing yards allowed. I would be cautious about starting Collins this week despite his game last week.
  • Lastly, I have Marquise Brown as my WR23 for Week 5. Brown has come alive in the last three weeks and looks like he can be a starter every week. He has 27 targets over the last three weeks and two touchdowns. He is a great start this week going against the Bengals.
