Fantasy Football 2023: Week 2 RB Rankings (Saturday Update)

Last week was one of the worst scoring weeks in fantasy football history, so if you want to win this week, my Week 2 RB rankings will give you a huge leg up.

One thing I took away from last week is that these workhorse RBs weren’t workhorsebacks. Joshua Kelly, Kyren Williams, Tyjae Spears, and Jerome Ford all stole carries from the RB1. Spears out-snapped Derrick Henry 34 to 30. Week 2 will be interesting to see if these backfields continue to split carries.

As far as injuries, the most significant was J.K. Dobbins going down with a season-ending Achilles injury. Be on the lookout for Justice Hill and Gus Edwards to jump in for these Week 2 RB rankings.

Running Back Notes:

  • Aaron Jones is my RB11 for Week 2. He did have a monster game but did sustain a hamstring injury, as he broke a 35-yard receiving touchdown. There isn’t any news on him missing Week 2, but he does drop a little if he is not 100%. AJ Dillon and Jones both split snaps evenly, but it was Jones who dropped 25.7 fantasy points. This Green Bay offense looked fluid and it looks as if Jones will be the focal point of this offense. He is a high-end RB2 against Atlanta this week.
  • Tyler Allgeier jumped up to my RB27 this week as he pounded in a two-touchdown game last week. Bijan Robinson is still the RB1 in this offense, but Allgeier did get a significant amount of carries. He also produced 22.9 fantasy points on 15 carries for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Robinson had 10 carries but was more active in the receiving game as he hauled in all six of his targets. Robinson only outsnapped Allgeier by four. So, going forward if you lost Dobbins or are unsure about one of your RBs, Allgeier is a great flex start this week.
  • Najee Harris falls to RB26 this week and it doesn’t look good for the third-year back. He will face a tough Browns defense who basically shut out the Bengals last week. The Browns only gave up 11.1 fantasy points in total to the running backs last week. The Steelers didn’t look fluid at all last week, and if they can’t get the passing game going, then the run game is going to fall apart. I’d bench Harris this week.
  • Lastly, I have Jahmyr Gibbs as my RB14. However, David Montgomery was on the field way more than Gibbs. But, it was Gibbs that was more explosive. Gibbs should have added a touchdown if he didn’t slip on his run. This week the Lions have the Seahawks, and the Rams backfield just ran up and down their defense. Expect Gibbs to do the same.
