Fantasy Football 2023: Week 1 Wide Receiver Rankings (Saturday Update

Week 1 is here, and that means the 2023 season is finally here, it also means the start of my weekly wide receiver rankings. This will be year three of my weekly rankings for wide receivers, and trust me you are going to need these this year.

So, to start the season, there are a few wide receivers that might not start Week 1 and will probably miss Week 2 as well. Or will start Week 1 but only be at 60%. Cooper Kupp is in jeopardy of missing Week 1 as well as Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Terry McLaurin should play but is dealing with turf toe.

This means players like Jahan Dotson, Christian Watson, DJ Moore, and Skyy Moore all jumped up in my wide receiver rankings for Week 1. Skyy Moore could still be on waivers this week too, and the rest of these receivers went in the late rounds.

Let’s get into some of my notes for Week 1.

Check out all of our Week 1 Fantasy Football analysis. It’ll be streaming out all week!

Wide Receiver Note

  • Chris Olave is my WR8 this week and has a great matchup against the Titans. Last season the Titans defense gave up the most fantasy points per game (33.5) to wide receivers. Olave also gets a huge upgrade with Derek Carr as his quarterback. Carr will want to prove he has a lot left in the tank and I see him targeting Olave at least 10 times this game.
  • Skyy Moore just jumped up to my WR30 this week. He has the Lion’s defense this week who gave up the third most fantasy points to wide receivers at 31.9 points per game. It is also noted that Travis Kelce hyperextended his knee in practice on Sept. 5. And now is unsure if he will play on Thursday. This makes Skyy Moore extra appealing this week if Kelce is a no-go. Skyy Moore has yet to break out and this could be the week. Start him as a flex confidently this week.
  • Tyler Lockett is my WR18 this week. Every year Lockett falls under the radar, then always finishes in the top 15 receivers each year. This year will be no different and he has a great matchup against the Rams. The Rams’ secondary has gone down since their Super Bowl win, so Lockett should be open all game. Lockett averaged 12.2 fantasy points last year and I see a jump this year.
  • Lastly, I have Marquise Brown down as my WR36. Kyler Murray is going to be out for a while and it looks like Joshua Dobbs will be the starter this week. Dobbs has been a backup for three years, and you hope the underdog will show up, but I don’t see that this week against the Commanders. Brown is the main guy there, but I don’t see him getting much production this week. I would rather start Mike Evans or even Courtland Sutton this week. Both have better matchups and better quarterbacks.
