Second base is kind of a choose-your-own-adventure position in Fantasy Baseball and especially points leagues. There are many different player profiles within my Top 30 second base rankings. You have power options, speed options, and options that hit for average. This makes it the ultimate Swiss Army Knife for your team.
If you feel the rest of your roster is a little strikeout-heavy, you have players like Luis Arráez and Nico Hoerner, both of whom were in the top 8 lowest strikeout rates in all of baseball for the 2022 season. Or if you want to send a message with a power bat you have players like Mookie Betts (39 Home Runs) and Ozzie Albies (33 Home Runs). No matter what your preference is there is a second baseman who can fill that need.
2024 Top 30 Second Base Outlook
The elephant in the room here is Mookie Betts. One of the best players in all of baseball has picked up second-base eligibility. If he makes sense at your draft slot, pull the trigger and reap the benefits daily. After that, as mentioned in the intro, it comes down to your preference for the position. A player like Matt McLain had a massively impressive rookie year and with continual progression could blow away his ADP. Second base has a good amount of depth too so if you don’t want to swing for a stud at the top of the draft spots 8-13 all have good to great upside.
