2023 Fantasy Football: Week 7 Quarterback Rankings (Saturday Update!)

The Week 7 quarterback rankings are feeling the squeeze. Six teams are on a bye this week, with Bryce Young, Joe Burrow, Dak Prescott, C.J. Stroud, Zach Wilson, and Ryan Tannehill all on the shelf. Injuries are also hitting the rankings hard, with some heavy hitters at the position possibly sitting out. There’s a lot to unwrap this week, especially on the injury front, so let’s get going!

Injuries to monitor for Week 7

  • Justin Fields is doubtful for Week 7 after suffering a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand on Sunday. Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent will likely get the start this week against the Raiders. He is a desperation play in 2QB leagues. UPDATE: Fields is OUT for Week 7.
  • Deshaun Watson hasn’t played since Week 4 with a rotator cuff contusion, and his status for Week 7 is unclear. P.J. Walker started in Week 6 and wasn’t great fantasy-wise, but he did pull off an upset against the 49ers. UPDATE: Watson is listed as questionable but is expected to suit up in Week 7.
  • Daniel Jones missed Week 6 with a neck injury, and his availability for Sunday is uncertain. If he deosn’t suit up, Tyrod Taylor will get another start for the Giants in Week 7 against the Commanders. UPDATE: Jones is questionable and will likely be a game-time decision.
  • Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a back injury and will undergo tests this week, making his status for Sunday unclear. If Garoppolo sits, veteran Brian Hoyer or rookie Aidan O’Connell will get the start. UPDATE: Garoppolo is OUT and Brian Hoyer will get the start in Week 7.

Week 7 Quarterback Notes

Bye Weeks: CAR, CIN, DAL, HOU, NYJ, TEN

  • The last time we saw Jordan Love, he put up a putrid Monday night performance. He completed 16-of-30 passes for 182 scoreless yards and threw three picks. It was his worst outing of the season, netting fewer than five fantasy points. However, there’s nowhere to go but up, and Love has a prime opportunity to bounce back this week. He gets a tasty matchup against Denver’s sieve-like defense. The Broncos have given up the most passing yards (1715) and touchdowns (14) to quarterbacks this season. They’ve also allowed the second-most fantasy points per game (20.8) to the position. I’m not wild about Love’s 55.6% completion rate this season, but this matchup is too good to pass up.
  • Geno Smith has had a disappointing season. He’s the QB23 on the year and has scored fewer than 11 fantasy points in three of five games played. Additionally, he’s coming off his first scoreless game of the year, throwing for 323 yards and two interceptions. However, a Week 7 matchup against Arizona could be a nice get-right game for Smith. The Cardinals have been one of the leakier defenses against quarterbacks this season, allowing the fourth-most fantasy points and receiving yards to the position. Smith should be able to take advantage at home in Week 7.
  • Sam Howell has been a QB1 in all but two games this season and is coming off a QB5 performance where he threw for 151 yards and hung three scores on the Falcons. Overall, the Commanders’ pass-happy ways are benefitting Howell’s fantasy line. He’s fifth in pass attempts this season (214), and over his last three games, he’s thrown six touchdowns to one interception. Howell should continue to roll this week against a mediocre Giants defense. Another QB1 outing should be in store for Howell in Week 7.
  • Derek Carr hasn’t been lighting it up this season. But he has strung together a couple of solid outings. Most recently, Carr threw for a season-high 353 yards, completing 32-of-50 passes with one touchdown and a pick. Carr should keep slinging the ball in Week 7. The Saints host a Jaguars team that has allowed the most passing attempts and second-most passing yards to quarterbacks through six weeks. They’re also bottom-10 in fantasy points allowed per game to the position. Carr could surprise on Thursday night.
