2022 Fantasy Football: Week 7 Quarterback Rankings

Bye weeks and injuries are leaving their mark on the Week 7 quarterback rankings. Heavy hitters Josh Allen, Matthew Stafford, Kirk Cousins, and Jalen Hurts are all on byes.

On the injury front, Dak Prescott is looking to return from a thumb injury this week.  If he does, he’s in a smash spot at home against the Lions. Taylor Heinicke takes over in Washington as Carson Wentz will miss 4-6 weeks with a fractured ring finger. Kenny Pickett is in concussion protocol; if he’s ruled out, Mitch Trubisky will start. Russell Wilson is getting an MRI for a hamstring injury, and Brett Rypien is the next man up if he misses time. Both Jameis Winston and Andy Dalton are dealing with back issues, so we could see more Taysom Hill this Thursday. There are a lot of unsettled situations here, so be sure to monitor the injury reports and adjust your lineups accordingly. Good luck, everybody!

Week 7 Quarterback Notes

Bye Weeks: BUF, LAR, MIN, PHI

  • Aaron Rodgers hasn’t exactly been lighting it up this season. But he gets an exploitable Week 7 matchup against Washington. The Commanders have allowed 19.1 fantasy points to the position, and the 12 passing touchdowns they’ve given up are tied for second-most. The Packers have a tough schedule coming up (@BUF in Week 8 and vs DAL in Week 10) and are coming off two losses. Rodgers and Company need a win and should be able to take care of business this week.
  • Tua Tagovailoa cleared concussion protocols and is expected to return this week. He faces the Steelers in a plus matchup on Sunday night. Pittsburgh has had difficulties stopping quarterbacks. They’ve given up 12 passing touchdowns this season (tied for second-most), and they’ve also allowed the second-most passing yards. Tagovailoa has some of the best receiving weapons in the league in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle and should have no problem taking advantage.
  • Jimmy Garoppolo finished as a top-10 quarterback in each of the last two weeks. Last week, he completed 29-of-41 passes for a season-high 296 yards against a leaky Atlanta defense. He also threw two touchdowns and two interceptions. Garoppolo gets another favorable matchup in Week 7 against Kansas City. The Chiefs have allowed the most passing touchdowns this season (15), and are the third-worst defense against quarterbacks. Another top-10 finish could be in the works for Garoppolo in Week 7.
  • Tom Brady is having a tough time scoring touchdowns. He has a total of eight touchdowns through six weeks and has logged only one multi-touchdown game this season. Brady faces the Panthers on the road in Week 7. Carolina is a middling defense against quarterbacks, but it’s tough to bank on Brady going off on an opponent right now. He’s a back-end QB1 for me this week.
  • Marcus Mariota makes for a nice streaming option this week. He’s been a top-10 quarterback in each of the last two weeks, combining for 276 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, 111 rushing yards, and one rushing touchdown. The Bengals are a top unit against quarterbacks, but the game script will likely require a lot of passing from Mariota in this one. Combine that with a solid rushing floor, and Mariota could put up nice numbers for fantasy this week.
