2022 Fantasy Football: Week 1 Quarterback Rankings

The 2022 NFL season is finally here, folks! We now turn our attention to our fantasy rosters and begin tackling start/sit questions. But there’s no need to sweat lineup decisions because I’ve got you covered with my Week 1 quarterback rankings and notes.  Be sure to keep in mind that all rankings are based on half-PPR scoring.

For Week 1, you should be confident in starting the quarterbacks you drafted. You’ve already done your homework and invested time and research into the position. Of course, certain matchups are more favorable than others. But at the start of the season, this is the time when you should be most comfortable rolling with your guys. Now, let’s take a look at those Week 1 matchups!

Week 1 Quarterback Notes

  • The Eagles are expected to pass more this season, but we may not see that in Week 1 against the Lions. Either way, Hurts will likely shine this week due to his mobility – his 784 rushing yards and 10 rushing TDs led the position last season.
  • Watch out for Russell Wilson this week. He returns to Seattle to suit up against his former team and is no doubt looking to make a statement.
  • Derek Carr is a back-end QB1 in my Week 1 Quarterback rankings. He’s not going to help you with his legs, but the Raiders-Chargers game has one of the highest projected totals, and Carr was one of the most pass-happy quarterbacks last season – he finished with the fifth-most passing attempts (626) and passing yards (4,804). Playing from behind with Davante Adams as his stud receiver equals fantasy goodness.
  • All eyes will be on Trey Lance this week. He gets a plus matchup against the Bears and could easily play himself into higher QB1 territory with his rushing ability. Admittedly, I’m taking a conservative approach until I see more.
  • Aaron Rodgers is sitting just outside the top-12 in Week 1, which could be too low. The loss of Davante Adams and the uncertainty with his receiving corps is the primary reason.
  • Jameis Winston (@ATL) and Trevor Lawrence (@WAS) could surprise this week. The Falcons and the Commanders gave up the most fantasy points to quarterbacks last season, and both had bottom-eight defenses overall. The upside is there for both in two-quarterback leagues.
