2021 Fantasy Football:  Week 5 Quarterback Rankings

If you like to stream quarterbacks, then Week 5 is for you!  There are a bunch of streaming options this week, ranging from seasoned veterans to shiny new rookies.  There are also some injuries at the position that need to be addressed.  There’s much to consider this week, so let’s get to those Week 5 quarterback rankings and notes!

Yeah, we know football is in full swing. That doesn’t mean you can’t jump into fantasy hoops? From joining a public league with our Fantasy Basketball Commissioner to trying one of our Classic Draft Contests, there are plenty of ways to play Fantasy Basketball on Fantrax!

Week 5 Quarterback Notes

On the injury front, Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a calf injury in Week 4 and Trey Lance took over in the second half.  Lance has upside and brings a rushing floor to his game, but he looked unsettled in his relief appearance.  It’s unclear who will start in Week 5 in a divisional matchup against the Cardinals.  Be sure to monitor the situation.

Teddy Bridgewater suffered a concussion in Week 4.  He’s played well so far this season and is the preferred quarterback for fantasy purposes over Drew Lock.  We should have a better idea of his status later in the week.

Justin Fields got the start in Week 4, but it’s unclear if he’ll start in Week 5.  While he improved on his Week 3 performance, head coach Matt Nagy continues to say that Andy Dalton will be the starter if he’s healthy.  That could be this week, so stay tuned.

Kirk Cousins had his first dud game in Week 4, failing to score at least 22 fantasy points on the season.  However, that shouldn’t continue this week.  He gets a favorable matchup in Week 5 against Detroit and should bounce back.  He’s a top-10 quarterback for me this week.

Daniel Jones threw for over 400 yards last week.  He also continues to play well, scoring at least 21 fantasy points three times this season.  Jones is a nice streaming option this week against Dallas, who is allowing the fourth-most fantasy points to the position through four weeks.

Sam Darnold continues to impress.  He’s thrown for over 300 yards and scored at least two touchdowns in the past three games.  Darnold also leads the league in rushing touchdowns, with five.  He has a challenging matchup this week against the Eagles.

Taylor Heinicke finished as the QB5 last week.  He provides some sneaky mobility and should continue to benefit from Curtis Samuel’s return.  The Saints aren’t an ideal matchup, but they did just allow Daniel Jones to throw for over 400 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

If you like rookie quarterbacks, and streaming is your thing, Trevor Lawrence (at TEN), Zach Wilson (at ATL), and Mac Jones (at HOU) all have plus matchups in Week 5.  I like them in this order.

Jameis Winston still has yet to attempt more than 23 passes in a game.  The low passing volume of the Saints’ offense should keep Winston out of lineups in one-quarterback leagues.  However, he does have a nice streaming opportunity this week against Washington, who are allowing the most fantasy points to quarterbacks.
