2017 NFL Mock Draft (2.0)

With the 2017 NFL Draft on the horizon (it starts on Thursday), I have decided to put together a Mock Draft of the first round.  This is all in fun as it seems almost everyone has an opinion on what teams will do in the draft and they are usually wrong.  Here is the way I think it will go, barring trades:

  1. Cleveland BrownsMyles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M – The Browns suffered through a horrible 1-15 season in 2016, so they earned this pick.  With it they do the smart thing and take the best player on the board!
  2. San Francisco 49ersSolomon Thomas, DE, Stanford – The 49ers need to amp up the pass rush and Thomas is the perfect guy to help in that endeavor.
  3. Chicago BearsMarshon Lattimore, CB, Ohio State – The Bears need help at offensive tackle, but this is too high to take one this year.  So, they add a top notch CB instead.
  4. Jacksonville JaguarsLeonard Fournette, RB, LSU – The Jaguars built the defense back up last year.  They need a dynamic player at RB and get one in Fournette.
  5. Tennessee TitansMike Williams, WR, Clemson – The Titans could use a true #1 WR and they get one in Williams.
  6. New York JetsMitch Trubisky, QB, North Carolina – The Jets can’t afford to pass up the chance at the best long term prospect at QB in this draft.
  7. Los Angeles ChargersMalik Hooker, S, Ohio State – The Chargers need a quarterback for the back end of the defense and they get one in Hooker.
  8. Carolina PanthersJonathan Allen, DT/DE, Alabama – The Panthers don’t need help on the interior of the D-Line, but they can’t pass up Allen with the idea of playing him at DE.
  9. Cincinnati BengalsDeMarcus Walker, DE, Florida State – The Bengals need pass rush help and they get it in Walker.
  10. Buffalo BillsJamal Adams, S, LSU – The Bills have bigger needs at CB, WR, and OT……but they simply can’t pass on Adams, who should have been long gone already.
  11. New Orleans SaintsDerek Barnett, DE, Tennessee – The Saints only had 30 sacks last year which ranked 27th in the NFL.  Barnett helps them improve that area from Day #1!
  12. Cleveland BrownsDeshaun Watson, QB, Clemson – The Browns want a dynamic QB to turn the franchise around as soon as possible.  Watson will get the chance to be that guy!
  13. Arizona CardinalsDeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame – The Cardinals want a QB of the future to groom behind Carson Palmer.  They get their man in Kizer.
  14. Philadelphia EaglesTre’Davious White, CB, LSU – The Eagles are tempted to take an RB here, but instead take the best corner left on the board to help fix up a leaky secondary.
  15. Indianapolis ColtsReuben Foster, ILB, Alabama – The Colts need a big time inside linebacker that is a run stopper and QB of the defense!  Foster is a perfect fit!
  16. Baltimore RavensO.J. Howard, TE, Alabama – Ravens’ GM Ozzie Newsome was an awesome TE for the Cleveland Browns and he played his college ball at Alabama.
  17. Washington RedskinsDalvin Cook, RB, Florida State – Don’t be surprised if the GM of the Redskins is running up to the podium with their draft card if Cook is still on the board!
  18. Tennessee TitansGareon Conley, CB, Ohio State – The Titans went offense with their first pick of this draft.  Now they get a really nice prospect for the defensive side of the football!
  19. Tampa Bay BuccaneersGarrett Bolles, OT, Utah – Protecting Jameis Winston is the most important thing on the agenda in this draft for the Buccaneers.
  20. Denver BroncosRyan Ramczyk, OT, Wisconsin – The Broncos are weak at the offensive tackle spot going into the draft.  So they hit the offensive line factory at Wisconsin to fix it up.
  21. Detroit LionsChristian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford – The Lions can’t believe that McCaffrey is still available!  He gives them an all-purpose back to give the Lions’ offense another dimension!
  22. Miami Dolphins – Jabrill Peppers, S, Michigan – Peppers can play all over the field on defense!  He can also return kicks, punts and go out for passes if needed!
  23. New York GiantsDavid Njoku, TE, Miami (FL) – The Giants make their offense more dynamic by adding a pass catching threat at TE!
  24. Oakland RaidersHaason Reddick, OLB, Temple – The Raiders need help at linebacker, so they take the best one still on the board.
  25. Houston TexansPatrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech – The Texans can’t go into the 2017 season with only Tom Savage and Brandon Weeden at QB.  Mahomes probably starts from Day #1!
  26. Seattle SeahawksCam Robinson, OT, Alabama – The Seahawks need to protect Russell Wilson better in 2017 and beyond.
  27. Kansas City ChiefsJohn Ross, WR, Washington – The Chiefs nab the fastest WR in the draft to help them stretch the field!
  28. Dallas Cowboys Taco Charlton, DE, Michigan – The Cowboys net a really good pass rusher to put heat on opposing QBs for the next few years!
  29. Green Bay PackersMarlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama – The Packers need a shutdown corner for the D.  Humphrey could be that guy.
  30. Pittsburgh SteelersObi Melifonwu, S, Connecticut – The Steelers gave up too many long passes last year.
  31. Atlanta FalconsTakkarist McKinley, OLB, UCLA – The Falcons continue to rebuild on the defensive side of the football.
  32. New Orleans SaintsCorey Davis, WR, Western Michigan – The Saints addressed the defense with their earlier pick.  Now they get a big target for Drew Brees to throw to!
