MLB News and Notes: Week of April 30

Now that the pesky diversion called the NFL Draft is over, fantasy owners and fans can now get back to the matter at hand: baseball. Shohei Ohtani, everyone's favorite two-way player, appeared to sustain an ankle injury after running out a ground ball and trying to avoid a collision with Neil Walker at first base. He already has his scheduled pitching start for Tuesday pushed back and did not start in Sunday's game against the Yankees.  Nick Tropeano is currently listed as the Angels’ starter for Tuesday. AT&T Park…

Medical Corner: Elvis Andrus, Josh Donaldson, and Other Injury Updates

Recent Injuries Elvis Andrus – Elbow Injury (Fracture) No fracture is ideal, but this particular spot is troublesome (see image below). Return to the field takes a little longer due to the challenge of regaining full flexibility of the elbow. Early reports suggest 6-8 weeks, but I'd err closer to eight weeks than six in most cases. Estimated Return: Early to Mid-June Josh Donaldson – "Dead Arm" As I mentioned two weeks ago, a trip to the DL wasn't out of the question for Donaldson if his velocity didn't return. He…

Medical Corner: Bogaerts, Suarez, Myers, Knebel

My projected return dates are based on medical protocols, established rehabilitation guidelines, and evidence-based data. Most of the time I will not agree with the timelines given by teams, beat-writers, or others on social media. Let’s go by the evidence. Bogaerts is out of the…

Bronze Points Ownership and Claims Report: Period 3-4

It’s still far too early to panic if your team is low in the standings, but at least we are starting to a gather a bit of data to work with. In general, it would be wise to wait a couple of more weeks to determine whether a player is addable or droppable. However, that luxury is not always afforded due to injuries and other factors. Here are the players who are the most popular among the nearly 750 teams in the Bronze Salary Cap Points Challenge game. I have also noted players who have been added or dropped by at least 20…

MLB News and Notes: Week of April 9

You have to love the fact that the beginning of baseball season is one of the signs that spring is here. Unless, of course, you live in one of the parts of the country where it's 3o degrees and snowing. So let's pull the shades down, put on some baseball, and pretend like spring is here. Sometimes, it takes pitchers a little while to warm up, and that can take a toll on a team's pitching staff. So far in 2018, we’ve seen three position players take the mound. Phillies center fielder Pedro Florimon became the first…
