Fantrax Fantasy EPL Position Changes

Prior to the new EPL season launching on Fantrax, we’re delighted to be able to detail the changes that have been made to the default player positions. These changes have been made based on the positional statistics Fantrax received from Opta throughout last season.

Players Changed to Forwards

There are two players who move from Midfield to Forward; Michail Antonio and Wilfried Zaha. They are both good Fantrax assets, and both simply had to be re-classified. Antonio is moved to Forward after a full season playing as West Ham’s central striker. The Englishman has featured there under Moyes since Project Restart of the 19/20 campaign. And Zaha featured in a Forward (Centre) role for most of last season, as per WhoScored.

Players Changed to Midfielders

There are six players who have been re-classified as Midfielders, but realistically there’s only one player we need to be talking about here! Leeds United star Raphinha has been re-classified as a Midfielder ahead of the new season. The Brazilian is an elite-level Fantrax asset, and moving to a midfield position provides him with some upside. Raphinha will now receive one point for every clean sheet that Leeds gains, but he also moves into a position where there are fewer top-quality options.
The other players moving from a Forward to a Midfielder are Callum Hudson-Odoi, Tyler Roberts, Helder Costa, and Steven Alzate. Hudson-Odoi is the most interesting move here, as he could provide good returns in his wing-back role under Tuchel if he is given the chance. The rumors about Hakimi could see him slide even further down the pecking order, however. Fernandinho moves from a Defender to a Midfielder, although it remains to be seen if he will sign a contract extension with Manchester City.

Players Changed to Defenders

There are also three players who have moved from Midfielders to Defenders. Ben Godfrey has had his position classification rightly correct to a Defender, after featuring solely in this position for a good few years! Cheikhou Kouyate of Crystal Palace is moved to a Defender after featuring at center-back all of last season, and similarly, Ezgjan Alioski moves after featuring at left-back for Leeds for the majority of the 20/21 campaign.
