Fantasy Basketball: Fringe Report – Luke Kennard

18 teams in action Friday, with plenty of potential for streaming value across the league. Owners need to factor in that they may not have a spare roster spot with so many games on the slate, but nonetheless, the value is there. Luke Kennard appears to have finally secured himself a sizeable role in the Detroit rotation and could be set for a strong finish to the season. I will look at Kennard as well as those other fringe players taking to the floor, endeavoring to dig up the value lying just under the surface.

  • Jordan McRae (5%) – Drop
  • Chasson Randle (5%) – Watch
  • Wesley Johnson (5%) – Drop

Hornets

  • Malik Monk (47%) – Drop: Monk had 15 points in his last game but would need to string together a number of similar performances before being considered in competitive leagues.
  • Miles Bridges (32%) – Drop
  • Guillermo Hernangomez (28%) – Drop
  • Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (19%) – Drop
  • Tony Parker (14%) – Drop
  • Shelvin Mack (13%) – Drop

New Orleans Pelicans @ Indiana Pacers

Pelicans

  • E’Twaun Moore (42%) – Stream: Moore is a borderline streaming option, only offering any real value in scoring and threes.
  • Stanley Johnson (22%) – Drop
  • Darius Miller (14%) – Drop
  • Frank Jackson (13%) – Watch
  • Cheick Diallo (12%) – Drop
  • Tim Frazier (11%) – Watch: Elfrid Payton appears likely to return Friday, basically eliminating any value Frazier had built up over the past few weeks.

Pacers

  • Wesley Matthews (46%) – Stream: Matthews is yet to impress for the Pacers but owners could give him a look as a points and threes streamer in the hope he can get things rolling Friday.
  • Cory Joseph (28%) – Drop
  • Aaron Holiday (17%) – Drop

Chicago Bulls @ Orlando Magic

Bulls

  • Robin Lopez (22%) – Stream: Lopez has been playing well as basically the only center on the Bulls roster. He has scored in double-digits in five straight games, collecting seven blocks in the same period. He is not a big rebounding center but should be considered if you need an efficient scorer who can block shots.
  • Ryan Arcidiacono (13%) – Drop
  • Shaquille Harrison (12%) – Drop
  • Wayne Selden Jr. (11%) – Watch: Selden is locked in a timeshare with a number of guards at the moment and would need Kris Dunn to miss Friday’s game to have any real value.
  • Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot (5%) – Watch

Magic

  • Jerian Grant (16%) – Drop
  • Khem Birch (9%) – Drop
  • Wes Iwundu (8%) – Drop

San Antonio Spurs @ Toronto Raptors

Spurs

  • Bryn Forbes (34%) – Drop
  • Pau Gasol (34%) – Drop
  • Jakob Poeltl (33%) – Drop
  • Patty Mills (29%) – Stream: Mills ended his last game with 22 points including six triples. He appears the most reliable of the Spurs streaming options and should be considered if you need a boost in guard numbers.
  • Marco Belinelli (23%) – Stream: Belinelli offers less upside than Patty Mills but could still be streamed in if you need three and points.
  • Davis Bertans (21%) – Stream: Derrick White appears as though he will play Friday which could send Bertans back to the bench. His production will likely take a hit but he could still be considered to see how things play out.

Raptors

  • Jeremy Lin (48%) – Stream: Lin looks set to play an important role for his new team after Fred VanVleet was ruled out for up to five weeks. Lin certainly doesn’t have a clear path to minutes but is worth a look if you need sneaky guard numbers.
  • OG Anunoby (29%) – Watch
  • Norman Powell (12%) – Watch

Detroit Pistons @ Atlanta Hawks

Pistons

  • Luke Kennard (29%) – Add: Kennard appears as though he may have finally secured himself a sizeable role moving forward. He doesn’t have the highest upside but if he is playing in excess of 30 minutes, he is worth putting in most standard league lineups.
  • Wayne Ellington (24%) – Stream: Ellington played 33 minutes in his last game prior to the All-Star break, finishing 3-of-10 from the three-point line. It looks as though he has the green light to fire away from downtown and should be able to contribute given his apparent playing time.
  • Ish Smith (17%) – Drop
  • Thon Maker (14%) – Drop
  • Svi Mykhailiuk (12%) – Watch
  • Bruce Brown (10%) – Drop
  • Langston Galloway (9%) – Drop

Hawks

  • Alex Len (40%) – Drop
  • DeAndre Bembry (29%) – Watch
  • Omari Spellman (17%) – Watch
  • Jaylen Adams (6%) – Watch

Minnesota Timberwolves @ New York Knicks

Timberwolves

  • Josh Okogie (19%) – Stream: Okogie will once again see big minutes with Robert Covington still sidelined. He has scored in double-digits in four of his past five games while contributing in a number of other areas.
  • Tyus Jones (19%) – Drop: Jones will likely make his return to action Friday but with Jeff Teague healthy he won’t have any value outside of deeper formats.
  • Gorgui Dieng (14%) – Drop
  • Jerryd Bayless (11%) – Drop
  • Luol Deng (6%) – Drop

Knicks

  • Mario Hezonja (47%) – Drop
  • Emmanuel Mudiay (41%) – Watch: Mudiay sounds as though he is a chance to return to action Friday after missing 12 games due to injury. His role is unclear after the Knicks acquired Dennis Smith Jr. prior to the trade deadline. Owners should keep an eye on him as head coach David Fizdale has indicated he may play the two of them together.
  • Allonzo Trier (27%) – Drop
  • Kadeem Allen (24%) – Watch: Allen had been playing very well prior to the break and if not for the impending return of Emmanuel Mudiay, would have been a solid pickup. He could still be streamed in if Mudiay does, in fact, miss another game but there is obvious risk involved.
  • Damyean Dotson (20%) – Drop
  • Luke Kornet (14%) – Stream: Kornet has played at least 28 minutes in each of his last two games, shooting a combined 5-of-27 from the field. The shooting will hopefully come around and given his apparent green light, he is worth considering in many competitive formats.

Los Angeles Clippers @ Memphis Grizzlies

Clippers

  • Ivica Zubac (45%) – Stream: Zubac has played well in two of his three games as a Clipper but should only be viewed as a backend streaming option with Montrezl Harrell still the center to own.
  • JaMychal Green (37%) – Watch: Green’s playing time has increased in each of his three games since being traded and he could continue to trend up, although, he has a somewhat limited skill set and doesn’t offer a lot of upside.
  • Garrett Temple (22%) – Drop
  • Landry Shamet (26%) – Add: Shamet appears set as a member of the starting unit and has been productive thus far. He can certainly help with three-pointers and contributes in points, assists, and steals, making him a borderline pickup in standard leagues.
  • Wilson Chandler (17%) – Drop

Grizzlies

  • Avery Bradley (42%) – Stream: Bradley has played well in two straight games but there is still a definite risk of regression moving forward. As long as he is starting and playing decent minutes, he is worth streaming in to see if he can maintain his current production.
  • Delon Wright (30%) – Stream: Wright had his best game as a member of the Grizzlies leading up to the All-Star break. The return of Mike Conly did nothing to slow Wright who was able to produce across the board in 26 minutes. It appears as though he will continue to come off the bench behind Avery Bradley but he certainly possesses the more fantasy-friendly game.
  • Ivan Rabb (29%) – Stream: Rabb had been trending in the wrong direction but with Jonas Valanciunas ruled out for Friday’s game, Rabb should be streamed in across all formats.
  • Joakim Noah (10%) – Watch: Noah is probable for Friday’s game and with Jonas Valanciunas on the sidelines, could be a sneaky source of big man stats.
  • Jevon Carter (19%) – Watch
  • Bruno Caboclo (8%) – Watch

Denver Nuggets @ Dallas Mavericks

Nuggets

  • Malik Beasley (48%) – Stream: Gary Harris looks set to return for Friday’s game which will almost certainly have an impact on Beasley. The Nuggets are going to be extra careful with Harris given his season thus far and Beasley should still be able to provide points and threes, at least for the next couple of games.
  • Monte Morris (45%) – Stream: Much like Malik Beasley, Morris is going to be impacted by the return of a number of players. He could still have value for another game or two but will likely fall out of the standard league conversation at some point.
  • Mason Plumlee (44%) – Watch: Trey Lyles could miss up to two weeks of action with a hamstring injury which could see Plumlee maintain fringe standard league value. He has the ability to fill the boxscore and is worth considering if you desperately need a big man for tomorrows action.
  • Trey Lyles (27%) – Drop
  • Juancho Hernengomez (16%) – Drop
  • Torrey Craig (10%) – Drop

Mavericks

  • Dwight Powell (38%) – Stream: Powell and Maxi Kleber continue to split minutes at the center position, capping their respective values. If you need points and rebounds, Powell is worth a look.
  • Trey Burke (34%) – Watch
  • Maxi Kleber (27%) – Stream: Kleber will likely find it difficult to reach any great heights given the current playing situation.
  • Dorian Finney-Smith (21%) – Stream: Finney-Smith continues to struggle on the offensive end but has been producing across the board. He is going to play decent minutes on a nightly basis and despite the limited ceiling, is a player who could be rostered in competitive formats.
  • Jalen Brunson (16%) – Watch

Utah Jazz @ Oklahoma City Thunder

Jazz

  • Kyle Korver (18%) – Watch
  • Royce O’Neale (13%) – Watch: O’Neale has now scored in double-digits in four consecutive games, playing at least 24 minutes in all four. He should not be picked up just yet is trending in the right direction.

Thunder

  • Markieff Morris (46%) – Watch: Morris appears likely to make his debut for the Thunder, coming off the bench behind Jerami Grant. He will be eased into the rotation given he hasn’t played since just after Christmas and should simply be viewed as a player to watch at this stage.
  • Nerlens Noel (33%) – Watch: Noel finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds in his last game but failed to block a shot for the fourth time in five games. He has seen his defensive numbers reduce over the past couple of weeks which is a worrying trend. The big scoring and rebounding numbers are likely more of an outlier.
  • Terrance Ferguson (16%) – Watch
  • Patrick Patterson (8%) – Drop
