Fantasy EPL Gameweek 35 Sleepers XI

For this article, we use the ownership statistics from Fantrax.  Our only rule is that each player we highlight is required to have ownership of 60% or below at the time of writing.  Therefore there’s a good chance these players will be free agents in your Fantrax Draft League!

GK: Vicente Guaita

Team:  Crystal Palace

Opponent:  Aston Villa (Away)

Ownership:  52%

Points Last Gameweek:  0

Prospects:  Vicente Guaita is the pick of the bunch for streaming goalkeepers this weekend.  The Spaniard hasn’t been on the best of scoring form in recent weeks, and Crystal Palace will be missing their influential defender Gary Cahill for the remainder of the season.  However, with a trip to struggling Aston Villa coming up, we can’t help but back Guaita!  The Crystal Palace goalkeeper is likely to be a free agent in most leagues after some tough fixtures, and therefore he gets the nod for our Gameweek 35 Sleepers XI.  Any goalkeeper/defender facing Aston Villa is a decent shout.

GW35 Points Scored:  10.5

DEF: James Justin

Team:  Leicester City

Opponent:  Bournemouth (Away)

Ownership:  49%

Points Last Gameweek:  6.25

Prospects:  Leicester City face a trip to struggling Bournemouth in Gameweek 35, and therefore we’re backing James Justin in our Sleepers XI.  The young full-back has played every minute for The Foxes since the Premier League restart and has been posting some decent scores on Fantrax.  Justin’s scores are nowhere near that of the man he’s replaced in the side, Ricardo Pereira, but no one expected them to be.  The former Luton Town defender has averaged 7.8 points during his last five appearances.  Considering Leicester face a Bournemouth side who look dead and buried, we’ll happily include Justin in our Sleepers XI!

GW35 Points Scored:  -2.5

DEF: Eric Garcia

Team:  Manchester City

Opponent:  Brighton & Hove Albion (Away)

Ownership:  22%

Points Last Gameweek:  0

Prospects:  We’re taking an opportunity to back a Manchester City defender, as they face a trip to Brighton.  Young Spaniard Eric Garcia has been seeing increased playing time since the Premier League restart, as Pep seems to be trying out a Garcia/Laporte central defensive partnership.  We think this partnership last seen against Southampton will return for the trip to Brighton.  Despite The Citizens losing this game to Southampton, Garcia hardly put a foot wrong so we expect him to return to the starting lineup.  If you’re in need to covering an opponents potential Manchester City clean sheet, Garcia may give you that.  This is a bit of a punt for our Gameweek 35 Sleepers XI, but one that’s worth the risk.

GW35 Points Scored:  14.5

DEF: Kortney Hause

Team:  Aston Villa

Opponent:  Crystal Palace (Home)

Ownership:  14%

Points Last Gameweek:  -0.75

Prospects:  Kortney Hause has not been on good scoring form, and Aston Villa are looking likely to be relegated.  However, we’re taking the opportunity to back Hause in our Sleepers XI due to the fact that he’ll be facing aerial king Christian Benteke in Gameweek 35.  In Aston Villa’s games against Sheffield United, Chelsea, and Newcastle, Hause gained a total of 27 headers.  If you’re playing with Togga scoring where defenders gain one point for every header they win, then the Aston Villa center back is a really good option for this weekend.  Crystal Palace will play long balls up to Benteke, and Hause will be there to win his fair share of the duels against the big Belgian!  Try and ignore the fact that Hause plays for Aston Villa… think about the potential for points gained from winning headers.

DEF: Ryan Fredericks

Team:  West Ham United

Opponent:  Norwich (Away)

Ownership:  12%

Points Last Gameweek:  13.75

Prospects:  Ryan Fredericks has started the last four games for West Ham, and after some tough fixtures earlier on during the Premier League restart, the right-back gained a huge haul against Burnley in Gameweek 34.  The Englishman posted 13.75 points in a 1-0 defeat, which is really really impressive.  Fredericks produced three key passes and six tackles, as well as a host of other positive contributions to the game.  If he can replicate this kind of form over the remaining games of the Premier League season, he’ll be a great addition to any Fantrax squad.  West Ham has a really nice fixture list coming up, and we highly recommend bringing in Fredericks.  The Hammers face bottom of the league Norwich next.

GW35 Points Scored:  21.75

MID: Onel Hernandez

Team:  Norwich City

Opponent:  West Ham United (Home)

Ownership:  7%

Points Last Gameweek:  11.5

Prospects:  We’ve backed Onel Hernandez the last couple of weeks, having said that he’s one of the few Norwich City players who actually care about playing for the club.  His performances, and scores of 8 and 11.5, have proved this point, as the Cuban-born German played with passion and desire against Brighton and Watford.  Hernandez isn’t the most talented of footballers, but he will put in the effort, and he will always be on the attack with his direct style of play.  We’re expecting Hernandez to start once again this weekend, as Norwich host West Ham United.  With Cantwell out injured and Duda seemingly out in the cold as his loan spell is coming to an end, Hernandez will be The Canaries’ chief creator alongside Buendia.

GW35 Points Scored:  7

MID: Tomas Soucek

Team:  West Ham United

Opponent:  Norwich (Away)

Ownership:  43%

Points Last Gameweek:  13.5

Prospects:  We continue to back Tomas Soucek in our Sleepers XI, and we’ll continue to do so whilst his ownership is below 60%!  The Czech midfielder has gained 54.5 points in his last three games, and The Hammers are now embarking on a really nice run of fixtures.  West Ham face a trip to struggling Norwich, followed by home games against Watford and Aston Villa in Gameweeks 36 and 38 respectively.  Soucek is likely to dominate the central midfield areas in all three of these games, and therefore he’s a really strong target between now and the rest of the season.  Over the last five games, Soucek has averaged seven aerial duel wins per game, as well as providing attacking returns, key passes, shots on target, successful tackles, and successful interceptions.  Basically, this guy has it all.  Sign him up!!!

GW35 Points Scored:  4.5

MID: Anthony Gordon

Team:  Everton

Opponent:  Wolves (Away)

Ownership:  12%

Points Last Gameweek:  3

Prospects:  Everton youngster Anthony Gordon has been afforded plenty of game time by his manager Carlo Ancelotti since the Premier League restart.  The veteran Italian manager is obviously a fan of Gordon, and he looks to be a really good asset to have ahead of the season finale.  We backed the midfielder in our Reserve XI last week, and we’re giving him an upgrade for our Gameweek 35 Sleepers XI, despite a hard fixture against Wolves.  Gordon may not score that well this weekend, but we’re featuring him due to the good fixture schedule The Toffees have to end the season.  If you’re looking for an under the radar gem to help you win the end of season Playoffs, Gordon is your man.  Everton ends the season with home games against Aston Villa and Bournemouth, as well as a trip to Sheffield United.  All aboard the Gordon train!

GW35 Points Scored:  4

MID: Stuart Armstrong

Team: Southampton

Opponent:  Manchester United (Away)

Ownership:  46%

Points Last Gameweek:  12

Prospects:  It feels like we back Stuart Armstrong every week, but you can’t blame us when such a consistently good performer has such low ownership.  There isn’t really much left to say about Armstrong, other than to bring him into your Fantrax roster if you can!  The Scottish midfielder will perform at a MID2/MID3 level for the rest of the season and has a couple of nice fixtures to end the season for those of you that use Playoffs to decide the outcome of your league.  This weekend The Saints face a trip to Manchester United, but a strong performance from the team, and Armstrong, is likely.

GW35 Points Scored:  18.5

FWD: Bukayo Saka

Team:  Arsenal

Opponent:  Tottenham Hotspur (Away)

Ownership:  51%

Points Last Gameweek:  15.5

Prospects:  Bukayo Saka has been a real bright spark for Arsenal this season.  The youngster is very versatile and has played in many positions down the left-hand side of the pitch in recent months.  Saka won’t start every game for Arsenal, as Arteta does like to rotate his attacking players, especially the younger players.  However, if Saka starts for Arsenal, he needs to start in your Fantrax team.  For users that make use of the live lineup changes settings, Saka is a really great addition to your squad!  The Gunners face a trip to Tottenham for the North London derby in Gameweek 35, and Saka is a great addition to our Sleepers XI despite the potentially tough game.

GW35 Points Scored:  -2

FWD: Christian Benteke

Team:  Crystal Palace

Opponent:  Aston Villa (Away)

Ownership:  34%

Points Last Gameweek:  19

Prospects:  Christian Benteke continues to divide opinion.  The Belgian striker gained a big reputation playing for Aston Villa when he first arrived in the Premier League and earned a big-money move to Liverpool after three seasons with The Villains.  Benteke did not perform well for The Reds and was subsequently sold to Crystal Palace after just one season.  After a solid start to life at The Eagles, Benteke has struggled to find the back of the net.  But that’s the thing, a striker doesn’t need to find the back of the net to be a solid Fantrax asset.  People are constantly asking us if they should sign or drop Benteke… our response is always to own him if he’s fit.  The Belgian has a really solid floor of around seven points, and has the potential to score big if he gains an attacking return, or if he has a particularly productive day winning aerials!  Benteke posted a score of 19 points against Chelsea on Tuesday night after scoring his second goal of the campaign.  Take away that goal, and he still would have scored eight points against a Champions League chasing team.

If there’s one piece of advice to take away from this Gameweek 35 Sleepers XI article, it’s to own Benteke if you have a chance.  His 32% ownership is insanely low for a player who scores consistently well on Fantrax.  Crystal Palace faces relegation-threatened Aston Villa this weekend.
