Fantasy EPL Gameweek 23 Sleepers XI

For this article, we use the ownership statistics from Fantrax.  Our only rule is that each player we highlight is required to have ownership of 60% or below at the time of writing.  Therefore there’s a good chance these players will be free agents in your Fantrax Draft League!

Goalkeeper

I’ve got no choice but to go for Robert Sanchez (6% ownership) of Brighton this week, after four clean sheets in a row. The young Spaniard has helped with steadying the ship for Potters side, gaining 59.75 points in his last five appearances. This weekend Brighton faces a trip to Burnley, so Sanchez makes the cut for the Gameweek 23 Sleepers XI. You have to back this chap after a clean sheet (and Brighton victory) at Anfield.

Defenders

I said back in my Gameweek 21 article that Antonio Rudiger (51% ownership) was likely to establish himself in the Chelsea side under Tuchel, and it looks as though he’s doing just that. Three starts, three clean sheets, and Sheffield United up next. Backing Rudiger this weekend is a no brainer. Alongside him in the Gameweek 23 Sleepers XI defense is Liam Cooper (38% ownership). The Leeds center back is one of the best ghost point-scoring defenders on Fantrax, and a game against Crystal Palace should provide him with the opportunity to put in a strong defensive display. Check out @drafterthoughtsUseful Draft Metrics page for full details on Cooper being an attractive ghost points option.

Next up is Ben Davies (29% ownership) of Tottenham (thanks for now making me write which Ben Davies I’m talking about, Klopp), as Mourinho’s men face struggling West Brom. The Lilywhites have been on poor form without their talisman Harry Kane, but I’m backing Davies to perform well this weekend. My final defender is Adam Webster (21% ownership). As I’ve mentioned above, Brighton is on really strong defensive form and the fixture against Burnley should bring good defensive points as well as a potential clean sheet!

Midfielders

Kicking off the Gameweek 23 Sleepers XI is Jesse Lingard (39% ownership), after his incredible debut for West Ham against Aston Villa. I’ll admit I’m not a huge fan of the 28-year-old on-loan Manchester United midfielder, but he’s worth a punt if he’s free in your Fantrax league. #Jlingz faces a trip to Fulham this weekend. Next up is a punt on Gabriel Martinelli (26% ownership) gaining a start for Arsenal this weekend. The Brazilian youngster was hooked at half time in his last start, but he actually scored pretty well during his 45 minutes of action. After the loss to Wolves mid-week, I’m expecting Arteta to have a mini shake-up with his team selection. Look out for Martinelli in the opening fixture of Gameweek 23.

I’m backing Nathan Redmond (25% ownership) to come into Southampton after their shocking performance against Manchester United. The Englishman has been working his way back to full fitness, and I’m expecting him to start against Newcastle after a cameo appearance on Wednesday. My final Gameweek 23 Sleepers XI midfielder is Ruben Loftus-Cheek (19% ownership). I’m backing him for a third week in a row as I’m confident the attacking returns will start arriving soon. Fulham faces West Ham this weekend, and Loftus-Cheek will hopefully escape rotation. The Cottagers also have a Double Gameweek 24 if you missed the news yesterday, so well worth a pick-up!

I’m refraining from backing the consistently inconsistent Ryan Fraser (18% ownership), but do check out his Gameweek 22 performance during the loss to Crystal Palace if you haven’t seen it. 24 points without any attacking returns!

Forwards

Said Benrahma (44% ownership) makes the Gameweek 23 Sleepers XI after six starts in a row, and some pretty good performances, under Moyes. The West Ham forward has two double-figure hauls in his last three games, and against Aston Villa, he picked up his first attacking return since November. If Benrahma is still a free agent in your Fantrax league, go pick him up! And my final pick is Takumi Minamino (36% ownership), now of Southampton. The Japanese forward joined the Saints on transfer deadline day, and I’m expecting him to play a fairly big role during their remaining games. Especially after sitting out the game against Manchester United; that’s done him a big favor. I’m not sure if Minamino will start straight away, but he’s still worth a punt. Southampton has a Double Gameweek 25 too.
