Fantasy EPL Gameweek 20 Sleepers XI

For this article, we use the ownership statistics from Fantrax.  Our only rule is that each player we highlight is required to have ownership of 60% or below at the time of writing.  Therefore there’s a good chance these players will be free agents in your Fantrax Draft League!

This week I’ll be using resources from my fellow Fantrax HQ writers, as well as one amazing external source, to put together my Gameweek 20 Sleepers XI. These resources will be; Gameweek 20 Waiver Tips from @draftgenie, Gameweek 20 Weekly Rankings by @tottiandor, EPL Points Against by @the_innergeek, and the Useful Draft Metrics put together by Community Legend @drafterthoughts. I’ll also be linking these through to the January edition of our Rest of Season Player Rankings – be sure to check them out if you missed them last week!

GK: Robert Sanchez

Team: Brighton & Hove Albion

Opponent: Fulham (Home)

Ownership: 4%

Points Last Gameweek: 13

Prospects: I’m kicking off the Gameweek 20 Sleepers XI by selecting a goalkeeper based on the EPL Points Against article by @the_innergeek. The premise of this article is that you can look at which sides give up the most points based on position, and stream a player from the team that faces off against that particular side. This is very useful when streaming goalkeepers. As per the Points Against data for goalkeepers, Fulham gives up the third-most points to opposition goalkeepers, so welcome to the team Robert Sanchez of Brighton.

The Spaniard has scored fairly poorly since his EPL debut a couple of months ago, but he has gained 21 points from his last two appearances. And one of those was playing away to Manchester City. Sanchez is a decent bet playing at home to Fulham, despite the Cottagers playing well in recent weeks.

DEF: Kenny Tete

Team: Fulham

Opponent: Brighton & Hove Albion (Away)

Ownership: 24%

Points Last Gameweek: 19.25

Prospects: Where else could I start the Gameweek 20 Sleepers XI defense than Kenny Tete. The legendary Fulham defender gained 19.25 points in Double Gameweek 19, despite playing against Chelsea and Manchester United. I raved about him last week, and I’ll do so again this week. Or perhaps there’s no need. I’ll divert your attention to the Gameweek 20 Waiver Wire and Weekly Rankings articles by my fellow colleagues. Tete is ranked as the 6th best defender in the whole of Fantrax for Gameweek 20 by @tottiandor. That speaks volumes. Fulham faces a trip to Brighton, and the Dutchman will be playing pretty much as a right-winger.

DEF: Oleksandr Zinchenko

Team: Manchester City

Opponent: West Bromwich Albion (Away)

Ownership: 49%

Points Last Gameweek: 20.5

Prospects: Up next is a low ownership Manchester City defender who has been working has way back into contention over the past few weeks. With Mendy once again out of favor, Walker suffering from COVID-19 and a recent injury, and Cancelo quite simply needing a break every now and then, Oleksandr Zinchenko has played the last four games and scored double digits in three of those games. Now classified as a defender in Fantrax, the Ukrainian is a good streaming option. Zinchenko is ranked in 4th place in the Gameweek 20 Weekly Rankings!

DEF: Liam Cooper

Team: Leeds United

Opponent: Newcastle (Away)

Ownership: 28%

Points Last Gameweek: 13.25

Prospects: Liam Cooper returned to the Leeds United backline for the Gameweek 19 loss to Brighton, but he gained an impressive score of 13.25 points. The Englishman has made the Top 25 defenders list in the Gameweek 20 Weekly Rankings, and also ranks surprisingly high in the Useful Draft Metrics data. Cooper is the 8th best defender in the whole of Fantrax for ghost points. I wasn’t expecting him to be so high! Leeds faces Newcastle on Tuesday, and a good points haul looks in the cards for Cooper.

DEF: Ethan Ampadu

Team: Sheffield United

Opponent: Manchester United (Away)

Ownership: 13%

Points Last Gameweek: 1.75

Prospects: My final defender is Ethan Ampadu, which is risky considering Sheffield United face a trip to Manchester United. The reason the Welshman gets the nod is that he doesn’t rely on clean sheets to score points, which is good when he plays for a side with only one of those to their names all season! Ampadu averaged 8.1 ghost points per 90 according to the Useful Draft Metrics article, which is pretty good all things considered. This one may not pay off for the Gameweek 20 Sleepers XI, but Ampadu looks good for Gameweek 22 onwards!

MID: Marc Albrighton

Team: Leicester City

Opponent: Everton (Away)

Ownership: 38%

Points Last Gameweek: 26.5

Prospects: Next up is Marc Albrighton. Alby to his friends. The veteran Leicester midfielder and Premier League winner has been on really good form recently. As have the Foxes. Due to this, Alrirghton looks set to stay in the starting eleven for the foreseeable future and is a really good addition to my Gameweek 20 Sleepers XI. This pick originates from @draftgenie‘s tip in his Waiver Wire article, which I’m fully on board with. Leicester is winning games and Albrighton has scored just shy of 50 points during his last three games!

MID: Ayoze Perez

Team: Leicester City

Opponent: Everton (Away)

Ownership: 38%

Points Last Gameweek: 7

Prospects: And I’m going in for another Leicester asset ahead of their trip to Everton. Vardy is out injured, and Rodgers has hinted that Ayoze Perez is the man who will fill in for the Englishman for the next couple of weeks. The Spaniard started as the central striker in the Foxes’ FA Cup game at the weekend, and I think he’ll keep his place. I’m not really a fan of Perez, but his ghost point per 90 ratio is 8.6 as per the Useful Draft Metrics data is genuinely really good. He has the 56th best ratio for this statistic across the whole of Fantrax. Pretty good for a player 38% owned.

MID: Jonjo Shelvey

Team: Newcastle United

Opponent: Leeds United (Home)

Ownership: 41%

Points Last Gameweek: 13

Prospects: After a Leicester City midfield double-up, I’m now going in for a classic Newcastle midfield double-up. Jonjo Shelvey makes the side after returning from injury and starting both of the Magpies’ games during their Double Gameweek 19. He scored a respectable 13 points across those two games. Despite a pretty poor season, Shelvey is a decent pick up due to the potential points he picks up mainly for key passes. The Newcastle man was highlighted in the Gameweek 20 Waiver Wire article this week.

MID: Matt Ritchie

Team: Newcastle United

Opponent: Leeds United (Home)

Ownership: 22%

Points Last Gameweek: 0

Prospects: My second Newcastle midfielder is a bit of a punt, but one which could pay off due to a good ghost points per 90 ratio. Matt Ritchie is inside the Top 100 players for ghost points according to @drafterthought‘s Useful Draft Metrics. So if the Scotsman starts for Newcastle against Leeds, he’s a fairly good bet for a decent points score. If you play with live lineup changes on Fantrax, take a punt on Ritchie. He plays in the first game of the week, so if he doesn’t start you can drop him and move onto another Fantasy EPL asset. Opponents Leeds also give up a lot of points to midfielders, as per the Points Against data.

FWD: Said Benrahma

Team: West Ham United

Opponent: Crystal Palace (Away)

Ownership: 42%

Points Last Gameweek: 13.5

Prospects: Said Benrahma started both of West Ham’s games during their Double Gameweek 19 and finished with a pretty respectable score of 13.5 points. The Algerian forward has struggled for game time since arriving in East London, but he looks to be slowly earning the trust of manager Moyes. I think Benrahma will start again this weekend and has a good chance of breaking his West Ham duck against Crystal Palace. He’s ranked as the 17th best forward for Gameweek 20 as per the Weekly Rankings.

FWD: Christian Benteke

Team: Crystal Palace

Opponent: West Ham United (Home)

Ownership: 41%

Points Last Gameweek: 9.5

Prospects: Finishing off my Gameweek 20 Sleepers XI is a complete Fantrax legend. Christian Benteke. I love it when he’s starting games and has ownership of below 60%! The Belgian striker is a beast on Fantrax. Not because of his goal-scoring ability, but due to his ability to win headers and pick up ghost points for statistically good contributions to football matches. Benteke is the 15th best ghost points scoring player as per the Useful Draft Metrics data. Incredible. New Crystal Palace signing Mareta won’t be playing in Gameweek 20, so Benteke looks set to start once again. Sign him up if you can!

Average Ownership: 31%
