Draft Fantasy Soccer: Week Five Ranks

Week five is here for draft fantasy soccer managers and… everyone is on the treatment table. The international break saw Dominic Calvert Lewin, Ryan Fraser, Christian Benteke, Seamus Coleman and more pick up knocks that will keep them out of action.

But injury creates opportunity for draft fantasy soccer managers as paying attention to the waiver wire will assist you in picking up the key 10-15 points to win your match up. Picking up David Brooks this week with Ryan Fraser out is one example of how the waiver wire can help. Brooks in particular has been an interesting case this season. While he has the talent to perform in the Premier League, Brooks has been working to get up to speed. With Fraser out, Brooks is next in line for a start on the wing and has the talent to make it count. Brooks fired off five shots versus West Ham in route to scoring 9.5 points in Fantrax but if one goes in versus Leicester, it turns into a 15 point day.

Alexander Sørloth will also be useful filling in for Benteke as he gives the best of the big Belgian by winning aerial  duels without the lack of confidence in front of net. With a strong preseason, Sørloth was pinned to have a big year by those playing draft fantasy soccer and now is his time to make good on these expectations.

Everton is another place to look for under owned assets with half of the team suspended or on the treatment table.

Sergio Aguero kills promoted teams. Need proof? See below

If you have him you’re playing him and if you don’t then you’re hoping that you aren’t playing against him. In other news, this should be the final week of my Adama Traore soapbox as he should get his first start of the season versus Burnley. Even if he doesn’t, he should still be started by draft fantasy soccer managers. Traore is the 19th highest scoring forward in Fantrax with only 91 minutes played. With consistent starts, there is nothing to stop Traore from being a top 10 forward for the rest of the season. Yet he is owned in a paltry 62 percent of leagues. PICK HIM UP NOW!

Midfield Ranks

Thanks to injuries and rotation, Paul Pogba rises to the top of our midfielder ranks. While he may not have the most upside of other midfielders listed, Pogba is the most consistent top fantasy asset and there’s something to be said about that in draft fantasy soccer leagues. If given the choice between the consistency of Pogba versus the boom or bust nature of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, I’m rolling with Pogba ten times out of ten.

The Dele Alli injury means that Lucas Moura keeps his place but people also need to recognize that Anderson is the most valuable fantasy asset on West Ham United. While Sharko has been good up top, Anderson is the 12th highest scoring midfielder on a team creating nothing. West Ham may not be for real but he is. If he’s being dangled in your league, take your league mates money and run.

Defender Ranks

Fullbacks are king. Nine of the top 10 spots belong to fullbacks as the year of the defender rolls on. In Rico and Digne, there is a low entry fee for managers to get in on the year of the fullback, so get them on your teams at the earliest chance possible. This is also the week for a Wolves defensive stack as Burnley is too injured to create anything going forward.
