NHL DFS Picks for Feb. 26th

*All DFS NHL picks geared toward the Fanduel platform. Fanduel uses a salary cap of $55,000.

Center – J.T. Compher

The Avalanche have been plagued by injuries lately, requiring players to step up in the lineup. J.T. Compher finds himself on the second line between Tyson Jost and Joonas Donskoi. The promotion has seen Compher receive an uptick in minutes, as he recorded 21:50 in Colorado’s last outing in Los Angelas. The 24-year-old also finds himself on the first power-play unit with Cale Makar, Nathan MacKinnon, and Gabriel Landeskog. The power-play exposure alone is enough to make Compher a DFS NHL value pick at $4,200.

Wing – Andreas Athanasiou

Edmonton acquired Andreas Athanasiou two days ago at the trade deadline for two second-round draft picks. The speedy forward is a former 30 goal scorer, on a struggling Detroit Red Wings team no less. Athanasiou see’s an upgrade skating with the Oilers. The winger is projected to skate alongside Connor McDavid on the first line. In addition, the power-play exposure is a major upgrade, as Athanasiou will see exposure to not only McDavid but Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins as well. Cash in on Athanasiou at $4,800 in your DFS NHL lineup.

Defense – Cale Makar

Cale Makar has made himself one of the favorites to win the Calder trophy this year. Makar is a work-horse on the Avalanche blue-line, averaging just over 20 minutes per night. Through 53 games, the rookie sensation has recorded 12 goals, 45 points, with 17 of those points coming on the power-play. Makar is consistent in the shot department, as he has averaged 2.2 shots per game over the last five games, collecting three points in the process. The price tag of $5,600 is relatively cheap for elite exposure on the blue-line, making Makar DFS NHL value pick.

Goalie – Matt Murray

Matt Murray has some new teammates post trade deadline in Patrick Marleau and Evan Rodrigues. In addition, Conor Sheary rejoins the Pittsburgh Penguins. With upgrades to the forward group, Murray should have a strong game against the Los Angelas Kings who sold at the deadline. The Penguins net-minder has seen success against the Kings in the past. He is 2-0-1 in three starts against Los Angelas in his career, while boasting a .952 save percentage and a 1.62 goals against average. It’s a short slate tonight, so spend the $8,200 for an expected strong effort from the Penguins.
