CFF Week 2 Waiver Wire, All-Week 2 Team, and More!

The Week 2 game slate certainly wasn’t as good as Week 1 on paper, but boy did we get some good football. Texas A&M looked better than expected against Clemson, Kentucky beat Florida for the first time in 31 years, and South Florida went toe-to-toe with Georgia Tech. With uncertainties at key positions, let’s look into the CFF waiver wire for Week 2 of the college fantasy football season.

Also, be sure to check out the All-Week 2 Team and the biggest risers and fallers after Week 1.

Quarterbacks

Blake Barnett, USF

Ownership: 14%

I was hesitant to throw the Alabama/Arizona State-transfer into the Week 1 piece due to the lower level of competition. Now, it appears as though Barnett will be a productive player going forward after his solid work in South Florida’s win over Georgia Tech. Barnett threw for 202 yards and a pair of scores while also running for 91 yards and another pair of scores in the 49-38 win. The grad-transfer has finally gotten his chance to play and has a total of eight touchdowns in his two appearances and will have to score all season long if the Bulls want to compete against what appears to be a strong American Athletic Conference.

Kellen Mond, Texas A&M

Ownership: 5%

Call it an overreaction, but Kellen Mond threw for over 400 yards against Clemson’s defense this week. Mond was very much disliked by the fantasy community last season with his indifference of throwing the ball to Christian Kirk but most are going to rush to the wire to pick up the true-sophomore with his heroics against Clemson. His passes were almost video game-like and he’s very fond of running the ball. Mond’s upside is far higher this season under Jimbo Fisher than he was a year ago under Sumlin.

Armani Rogers, UNLV

Ownership: 19%

A successful college fantasy quarterback is certainly one that can use his legs. That is almost all that Armani Rogers can do. Rogers has amassed 185 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in his first two games against some unusual competition (USC and UTEP) and doesn’t show any signs of stopping. His arm is very pedestrian, but don’t sleep on Rogers because of his passing ability when you can sit back and watch him destroy defenses on his legs.

Others to Consider:

Bryce Perkins UVA, 25%; Zac Thomas App State, 13%; Shai Werts GA Southern, 7%

Running Back

Kylin Hill, Mississippi State

Ownership: 15%

Many thought the big storyline for the Mississippi State-Kansas State game would be the big return of Nick Fitzgerald from his gruesome injury/suspension but Kylin Hill stole the spotlight. Hill was mentioned multiple times over the offseason as a back that fit Joe Moorhead’s offensive scheme better than fellow Bulldog Aeris Williams and certainly showed why this past week. The sophomore got 17 carries and made the absolute most out of them with 211 rushing yards and two touchdowns as well as a score through the air. The defenses of the SEC are certainly more difficult than Kansas State’s, but Hill will still be a big producer in this Moorhead offense.

Qadree Ollison, Pittsburgh

Ownership: 3%

It may have not been a highlight-worthy game for Pitt against Penn State, but Qadree Ollison at least gave the Panther fans something to watch. Ollison had a huge freshman season in the absence of James Conner but fell off fast when Conner returned from his battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After two, almost silent years, the senior looks determined to make a name for himself with 192 yards in his first two contests. The ACC Coastal division appears to be more wide open than anticipated and Ollison is the bell cow back for the Panthers this season.

Keaontay Ingram, Texas*

Ownership: 5%

This one is kind of a wait and see kind of add. Ingram was highly recruited out of high school and was expected to play a role in the offense after Texas’ abysmal rushing attack from 2017 (373 yards from leading rusher). The Freshman was seeing more and more action as these weeks went on and currently has 101 yards on 16 carries this season. He’s only going to get more and more carries as time goes on and will likely be the starting back before season’s end. The issue right now is that he isn’t the starting back right now and he also left the last game with a knee injury. If the injury is minor, Ingram could be an add and stash for later in the season when Texas hopefull has things figured out.

Others to Consider:

Trey Sermon, Oklahoma, 24%; TJ Pledger, Oklahoma 2%

Wide Receivers

Laviska Shenault Jr., Colorado

Ownership: 44%

So maybe Laviska Shenault Jr. doesn’t have the lowest of ownership numbers, but he’s currently a top-five fantasy receiver in almost all leagues and has nowhere near the ownership as the others. Colorado may not have had the toughest of defenses in their first two games, but he had double-digit receptions in both games. This is a win in any format, especially in PPR leagues, because touches at least mean that he’s getting the opportunity to score. Do yourself a favor and snatch up Shenault before people realize that he’s not going to fall off anytime soon.

Jeff Thomas, Miami

Ownership: 10%

Ahmmon Richards was expected to play a key role in the Hurricane offense this season but a leg injury against LSU and his availability going forward remains up in the air. Luckily for Miami, Jeff Thomas has stepped up in a huge way to fulfill the role of top receiver. Thomas has had back-to-back games with double-digit fantasy points and looks to be the main target for quarterback Malik Rosier with six receptions in his two games. His touched saw a dip last week in the blowout over Savannah State. If you’re looking for a player that can score anytime he touched the ball, look no further than Jeff Thomas.
