2018 Dudes and Don’ts: Third Base

As has been the case in recent years, third base is very top heavy. You've got five pure studs at the top, and (mostly) solid options throughout the top 20. There isn't a lot of pure speed at the position, which makes the likes of Alex Bregman that much more enticing. You'll have to pay up for his services early on, though, and we're not about that action here. Let's go bargain shopping and find you a Dude.Dudes and Don'ts: CatcherDudes and Don'ts: First BaseDudes and Don'ts: Second Base The Dude - Eugenio…

2018 Dudes and Don’ts: Second Base

Ah, the sweet keystone. I actually like a lot of the options up and down the Fantrax Second Baseman ADP this year, which means that I'm not prioritizing second base early in drafts. Don't get me wrong, if I can get my grubby mitts on Jose Altuve, Brian Dozier, or in certain cases even Dee Gordon I'll do it. That said, there are many options I'm content falling back on. It's a great year to let the position come to you. On to The Dude!Dudes and Don'ts: CatcherDudes and Don'ts: First Base The Dude - Yoan Moncada I'll…

2018 Dudes and Don’ts: First Base

Ah, this is much more to my liking than the abominable catcher position, in which we started out. If you haven't checked it out, you can read it here to get a sense of how I value these players. First base is full of fantasy goodness this year. Not only is there an elite top-end, but there's a solid midsection and a chunky bottom end, as well. I'm not sure where I'm getting these descriptors. Suffice it to say, whenever you decide to dive in and purify yourself in the waters of first base, you'll be able to find something…

2018 Dudes and Don’ts: Catcher

Welcome to the 2018 series of Dudes and Don'ts! What is a Dude and a Don't, you ask? Well, essentially, a sleeper and a bust but with a fancier name. These are players that I like or dislike for the 2018 season, broken down by position. For each position I'll give you one Dude, one Don't, and one Deep League Dude. The exception to that will be for outfielders and starting pitchers, where I'll give some extra guys since those positions are deep. Join or start a fantasy baseball league at Fantrax today! Course Correction: Ketel Marte

This series is typically based on the premise of a player performance "correcting" positively or negatively. In this case, however, we're hoping the correction is actually more of the same. Which is not really a correction at all, I realize, but whatever. This is my space to write! Stop judging me! Ketel Marte showed us some very intriguing developments last year, and he's officially got sleeper appeal.Marte has had fantasy owners, particularly in dynasty leagues, salivating for years. As far back as 2015, he hit .314 and…

Course Correction: Avisail Garcia

This Course Correction series is based on the premise that the player I'm writing about did something rather anomalous in 2017. He overperformed, underperformed, or otherwise stood out to me in some regard. You might say that someone who led all qualified hitters in BABIP would qualify for such an examination. You might be right. In fact, if you asked me to name someone off the top of my head who would produce much different numbers in 2018 compared to 2017, this would be the name that escaped my mouth. That name is Avisail…

Course Correction: Yoan Moncada

Few prospects ever receive as much fanfare as Yoan Moncada did. It was fair to give him so much attention, however, considering the price Boston paid to land the young Cuban -- a cool $63 million. His signing bonus from the Red Sox was $31.5 million, and they paid 100% tax on that since they exceeded their bonus pool money. Well worth it in their estimation, given his pedigree as one of the best young players in the world. He did nothing to quell those notions throughout his first two seasons in the minors. He stole 49…

Course Correction: Javier Baez

If you've played in a dynasty league over the past five years, you know the hype has always been real on Javier Baez. As a prospect, the dynasty community would swoon over his potential. "30/30!" they shouted. "40/40!" they gushed. Much underwear was sullied. Such potential rarely comes to fruition, but you could see where they were coming from. After all, he went 37/20 in 2013 between High-A and Double-A when he was 20, and 32/21 in 2014 between Triple-A and the majors as a 21-year-old. However, the majors can humble you in…

Course Correction: Patrick Corbin

Here I begin my Course Correction series, profiling players that notably over- or under-performed expectations in 2017. However, I also reserve the right to just bring up some players that I am really interested in ... don't judge me too harshly. We're going to start on the mound with a player whose career has been a real roller-coaster ride, and that is Arizona Diamondbacks starter…
