Key Signings Sees Big Risers In Power Rankings

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

2020 Record: 11-5

If you’re looking to run it back, this is the way to do it. The Buccaneers were able to bring back all 22 starters from their Superbowl Champion team including Chris Godwin, Rob Gronkowski, Leonard Fournette, Shaq Barrett, and Lavonte David. Look for the Buccs to make another competitive run to toss the Lombardi from boat to boat.

2. Kansas City Chiefs

2020 Record: 14-2

After a disappointing Superbowl performance, the front office went to work on bolstering the offensive line. Securing Joe Thuney and Kyle Long is a step in the right direction, but support in the secondary will need to be addressed in the draft to ensure the Chiefs attend their third Super Bowl in a row.

3. Green Bay Packers

2020 Record: 13-3

Bringing Aaron Jones back goes a long way to keeping Aaron Rodgers happy, something the Packers front office often fails to do in the offseason. If the team can finally provide the 37-year-old MVP with some weapons in the receiving game to compliment Davonte Adams, another trip to the NFC Championship and beyond is all but certain. The results from this draft could very well send the Packers down our power rankings.

4. Buffalo Bills

2020 Record: 13-3

Last year showed us that the Bills are a legitimate contender to overthrow the Chiefs in the postseason. The re-signing of Matt Milano on defense, as well as bringing in veteran Emmanuel Sanders to join Stefon Diggs, signals Buffalo is ready to make a push. With some sort of consistency from the running-back room, Josh Allen’s Bills should be one of the best teams in the AFC.

5. Los Angeles Rams

2020 Record: 10-6

Sean McVay and the Rams are all in on 2021. The upgrade at quarterback after shipping out Jared Goff for Matthew Stafford will provide the passing game some consistency and explosive plays. This assumes Stafford can stay healthy. Boasting one of the league’s top defenses, the Rams will be a team to watch out for this season.

6. Baltimore Ravens

2020 Record: 11-5

Lamar Jackson needs help at the receiver position, finishing last season as the No.32 ranked passing offense. Missing out on their chance to snag JuJu Smith-Schuster, we wonder if there’s any excitement for a receiver to join this club, having finished 2020 only passing the ball a league-low 406 times.

With this being a draft class full of top receiving options, we hope the Ravens give Lamar a new toy and find their way back to elite status.

7. Cleveland Browns

2020 Record: 11-5

The Browns fell short of beating the Chiefs in the divisional round after a 13-yard run by backup QB Chad Henne, and a successful bold attempt on fourth down. Baker Mayfield was a real performer late in the season, despite missing his Pro Bowl receiver Odell Beckham Jr. With a few key signings on defense, expect another exciting year for the Browns.

8. New Orleans Saints

2020 Record: 12-4

Well, it’s official, the Saints will be without Drew Brees for the first time in 15 years. Now let the debating begin; Winston or Hill as the new signal-caller in The Big Easy? Sean Payton opted to go with Taysom Hill last season when Brees was injured, however, Winston profiles better as a long-term option. The Saints should still be competitive this year, despite the loss of some vital players.

9. Seattle Seahawks

2020 Record: 12-4

There has been quite the drama surrounding the Seahawks and Russell Wilson this offseason. But as of now, the team is full steam ahead with their franchise quarterback. Re-signing Chris Carson to lead the backfield is a great way to entice Wilson to stay put. With the threatening duo of Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf in full force, expect to see more high-scoring games for this offense.

10. Arizona Cardinals

2020 Record: 8-8

The Cardinals were busy in NFL free agency, signing veterans J.J. Watt and A.J. Green. But the biggest acquisition was for center Rodney Hudson, who should boost up this offense and keep Kyler Murray well protected. There are still questions at the running back position after the departure of Kenyan Drake. Expect an overall improved squad from last season’s disappointing record.

11. Washington Football Team

2020 Record: 7-9

Things have gotten exciting for a team still looking for a permanent nickname. I know, this is quite a high spot in our power rankings for a team that finished with a losing record in 2020. But bringing in the veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick to lead a young emerging offense, paired with one of the league’s best secondaries, Washington has a great chance to repeat as the NFC East champions.

12. Tennessee Titans

2020 Record: 11-5

The Titans took quite a hit in free agency, losing fundamental players in Kenny Vaccaro, Malcolm Butler, Corey Davis, Jonnu Smith, and more. Singing Bud Dupree is a great addition, but we first need to see how he performs after suffering a torn ACL last year. Superstars Derrick Henry and A.J. Brown will be heavily leaned on this season on a team that may fall short of expectations.

13. Indianapolis Colts

2020 Record: 11-5

Which Carson Wentz are we going to see in 2021? Will it be the highly disappointing passer from last season who finished in the bottom two quarterbacks in CMP% and Yards per Attempt? Or will the reunion with his 2017 OC in Frank Reich bring him back to stardom? The answer lies with what improvements the team makes on the offensive line prior to September.

14. Miami Dolphins

2020 Record: 10-6

Very few second-year quarterbacks have ever been set up for success like Tua Tagovailoa will be. The recent blockbuster trade between Miami and San Francisco gives Miami a great draft position this year, and for many to come. If Tua can make a leap in year two, and the Dolphins defense can show up like last season, expect this to be a team to complete with the Buffalo Bills for top spot in the AFC East.

15. San Francisco 49ers

2020 Record: 6-10

After a disappointing season, the Niners shock the football world, trading away future draft capital to move up to the No.3 overall spot in this year’s draft. With their hopes of acquiring a franchise quarterback, the pressure is on. With the right pick in the draft, and a healthy George Kittle, expect San Fran to shoot back up to their recent Super Bowl caliber performance.

16. Pittsburgh Steelers

2020 Record: 12-4

It’s odd to consider the Steelers this low in our power rankings, having gone 11-0 to start last year. Boasting one of the league’s best defenses, the aging Ben Roethlisberger and decimated offensive line gives cause for concerns. Bringing the TikTok star JuJu Smith-Schuster back is a good start, but further moves will need to be made if they have any hope of repeating last year’s early success.

17. Los Angeles Chargers

2020 Record: 7-9

With a little improvement in clock management, the Chargers have the potential to be a double-digit winning team. New head coach Brandon Staley quickly addressed the offensive line in free agency, but a solid draft is needed before any discussion of a postseason run. Expect improvement from second-year quarterback Justin Herbert as he continues to develop a connection with his extremely talented receiver group led by Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.

18. Dallas Cowboys

2020 Record: 5-11

Jerry Jones finally got it done. Signing Dak Prescott to a hefty contract seeing the young stud support the star on his helmet to the tune of $160 million over the next four years. Last season showed us that the Dak lead offense can put up points. A few crucial draft selections to address one of the league’s worst defenses could help Jerry and Co. return to playoff contention.

19. New England Patriots

2020 Record: 7-9

In a surprising move, the previous free-agency scrooge Bill Belichick made a huge splash, spending over $270 million on contracts including a pair of tight-ends in Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith as well as receiver Nelson Agholor. As of now, it seems Cam Newton is still the man behind center, however, more changes could be on the horizon.

20. Las Vegas Raiders

2020 Record: 8-8

The Raiders came out of free agency with one of the biggest head-scratching signings; bringing in Kenyan Drake to pair with former first-rounder Josh Jacobs. On top of this, we see the departure of three significant offensive linemen. Bringing in pass-rusher Yannick Ngakoue and the oft-injured John Brown is great for a team that looked shaky at times last season.

21. Denver Broncos

2020 Record: 5-11

This offseason saw the Broncos make a few key acquisitions towards bringing their defense back to its former glory. Snagging Ronald Darby nice and early, then later adding Kyle Fuller gives Denver a high grade in free agency. They also have approx. $30 million in cap space remaining to support the young team. With a healthy offense, we could see Drew Lock’s offense become a contender in the AFC West

22. Minnesota Vikings

2020 Record: 7-9

The Vikings addressed their defense with the addition of the aging Patrick Peterson. The former Pro Bowler looks to bounce back from a disappointing year with the Cardinals, though it’s tough to imagine the impact the 33-year-old vet will have against No.1 receivers in the league. Flashes of greatness from rookie first-rounder Justin Jefferson will be required again this season to keep the Vikings competitive.

23. New York Giants

2020 Record: 6-10

Daniel Jones has gotten himself a legit No.1 passing option in Kenny Golladay. A successful campaign from Jones is a must in order to prove his former first-round price tag. This offense however will continue to be focused on giving Saquon Barkley the ball.  Let’s also keep in mind that both of these offensive players are coming off injuries that saw their season cut short. Should the NFC East perform in a similarly embarrassing fashion, there’s no reason why the Giants can’t find their way to the top.

24. Cincinnati Bengals

2020 Record: 4-11-1

Having their first overall selection go down with an injury was a blow to this team’s potential. But the news out of Cinci is that Joe Burrow’s rehab is going great and is expected back at some point during training camp. With the addition of Riley Reiff to protect Burrow, this team is one good draft away from jumping up at least five spots in our power rankings.

25. Carolina Panthers

2020 Record: 5-11

The Panthers have allowed Teddy Bridgewater to seek a trade after the team traded for Jet’s young quarterback Sam Darnold. Having the No.8 overall pick in the draft could see the addition of a nice receiver to pair with D.J. Moore and his former Jets teammate Robby Anderson. With the offense still running through Christian McCaffrey, expect an exciting season at the very least.

26. Chicago Bears

2020 Record: 8-8

Not quite the quarterback the Bears fan base had hoped for, but Andy Dalton does provide an upgrade at the quarterback position over Nick Foles and Mitch Trubisky. Placing the franchise tag on receiver Allen Robinson is a great move, only if they can use this time to secure him to a long-term deal. With very little draft capital, the Bears will continue to be heavily reliant on their defense to support a lackluster offense.

27. Atlanta Falcons

2020 Record: 4-12

There are just too many holes on this team to justify any sort of confidence. With major needs on the offensive line, pass rush, and running back core, giving up the No.4 overall pick in the draft for a haul of future picks could be the best approach to getting the Falcons back to the Superbowl; and hopefully perform for the full 60 minutes.

28. New York Jets

2020 Record: 2-14

The Jets have traded away Sam Darnold, making him the sixth Jets’ first-rounder to be traded since the 2013 draft.  With the current buzz surrounding Zach Wilson being selected at the No.2 spot, the Jets will need to address their issues on the offensive line to give their new starter any sort of chance at success.

29. Philadelphia Eagles

2020 Record: 4-11-1

Young rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts showed flashes of greatness during his few starts last season, however, it’s going to take a lot more to move them up our power rankings. The recent trade with Miami to drop down to No.12 overall does bring in some future draft selections in the coming years. With their current cap issues, there isn’t much hope of adding any high-value contributors.

30. Jacksonville Jaguars

2020 Record: 1-15

With a unique talent like Trevor Lawrence just a month away from a done deal, the Jags did very little in free agency to provide him with some support in year one. Without a standout offensive player to pair with the new quarterback, it appears Marvin Jones will be his No.1 receiver. This rebuild is going to take a little more time.

31. Detroit Lions

2020 Record: 5-11

Jared Goff landing on this rebuilding franchise isn’t the most ideal spot at this point in his career. With several holes on the offense paired with a league-worst defense from last season, they will need a number of good drafts and signings over the next few years to be considered a contender.

32. Houston Texans

2020 Record: 4-12

There are just too many unknowns to have any sort of confidence in a successful season. The Texans allowed the release of the face of the franchise in J.J. Watt, and with Deshaun Watson’s off-the-field legal concerns, this franchise is in a serious hole. With very little talent acquired during the off-season, this is a team doomed to fail.
