2019 NFL Draft: Packers Select Darnell Savage Jr.

With the 21st pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers selected Maryland S Darnell Savage Jr.

The Packers dealt up to get Savage, who is undersized for a pro safety, but he has superb athletic ability and instincts. He had seven interceptions over the past two seasons and can close on tracked passes very quickly. He hits hard and covers well and may be able to help Green Bay as a slot defender. He used to play RB, illustrative of how athletic he is, but Savage could also get overmatched by some bigger offensive players.

Fantasy Impact of Darnell Savage Jr.

The Pack allowed 30 TD passes last year, so they definitely had to make the trade-up to help bolster their back end. Green Bay used both of its two first rounders to fortify the defense and will now have to address getting Aaron Rodgers more help on the second day of the 2019 NFL Draft.
